Catedral de la Santisima Concepcion, Concepcion

4.1
#2 of 8 in Historic Sites in Biobio Region
Church Landmark
High, arched ceilings, colorful stained-glass windows, and a bronze image of the Immaculate Conception contribute to the distinctly Romanesque architectural style of Catedral de la Santisima Concepcion. In 1939, an old cathedral was severely damaged on this site, requiring the need for a new cathedral. The archbishop commissioned a team of architects to construct the masterpiece. Since it's completion in 1950, the church has been known as a symbol of architectural heritage throughout the city. Inside, ornate decor and murals complete the grand altar.
