Casa del Arte - Pinacoteca, Concepcion

Art Museum
Casa del Arte - Pinacoteca hosts the largest collection of works by Chilean artists from the colonial period to the 19th and 20th centuries, including a monumental mural. Mexican artist Jorge González Camarena painted the 250 sq m (2,690 sq ft) "Presencia de América Latina" from 1964 to 1965, reflecting the cultural, social, and union values of the Latin American countries. Other collections include masters of Chilean painting, portraits, self-portraits, landscape paintings, embroidery, photography, and a number of works by foreign artists. When you visit, notice that the museum building itself represents a mixture of neoclassical and Art Nouveau styles--due to partial reconstruction following a 1960 earthquake. • When I visited there was an exhibition on the Generación de los 13, the Chilean equivalent of the generation of 1922. In the Chilean case rupture with Europe is much less radical than in the case of Brazil. The move saved more strokes of classical painting and rural themes. The exhibition was well explained for Dummies (like me) and left the Pinacoteca with seems to be learned something new about the Chile. Beautiful place.

  • For art can reflect the social developments. The mural painted by Mexican muralists, allows us to highlight periods of our history that is common to all Latin Americans.
