Chillan Cathedral, Chillan

(4.4/5 based on 120+ reviews on the web)
Survey the idiosyncratic architecture of Chillan Cathedral, a cathedral built in the mid 19th century as a tribute to the almost 6,000 lives lost in the massive 1939 earthquake that devastated the city of Chillán. The 11 parabolic arcs that adorn the structure act as thoroughly modernist, emblematic, and striking features of the church, built to represent prayer and interwoven hands. Head inside to see how natural light seeps in throughout the length of the church. For travelers who use our online itinerary creator, Chillan holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Chillan Cathedral and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • Preciera that one is entering the belly of a whale. The arches that form it gives that feeling. A few stained glass windows only seen output give natural light effect. Entering the crucifix behind the altar reflects the sunlight. The acoustics are typical of the great cathedrals, have an organ sounding as tubes played by a man with unangran voice. Obviously, it is facing the plaza de armas of Chillán.

  • Tourist place par excellence in the center of Chillán. Always open and allows us to know its oval construction built after the earthquake in Chillán. In winters is very icy, both the floor and the height of the building. Go warm.
