Church of Castro, Castro

(4.6/5 based on 850+ reviews on the web)
Originally built in 1567 to convert the indigenous people, Church of Castro now serves as the city's main Catholic church. Designed in the Neo-Gothic style of architecture, the church differs greatly in appearance from others in the city. Its structure consists of local wood, while the facade, roof, and external lining are all made of galvanized iron. The brightly painted exterior makes it stand out among the other buildings on the adjacent plaza. When you tour the interior, look for the image of the Archangel Michael victorious over Satan, and try to visit during a service to sit among the wooden pews and admire the stained glass windows. Make Church of Castro a centerpiece of your Castro vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Castro tour planner.

  • Castro is a city located on the island of Chiloe. We visited Chiloé, crossing the island until Castro which is more or less half of the territory. What we saw of Chiloé us charm, is a magical landscape. And the wooden churches are beautiful, with an exquisite work. Worth knowing since many of them are heritage
