Scenic Drive
Drive through scenic rural Patagonia on Carretera Austral. The highway, commenced during Pinochet’s rule and completed in the early 2000's, takes you on a 1,240 km (770.5 mi) journey through a staggering variety of landscapes. Pass lush green forests, national parks, and volcanoes while the road curves, becomes steeper, or narrows between rocky mountain passes. Visit quaint cities and villages along the way, and take detours to go kayaking or see the glaciers. A road trip on the Southern Highway offers a chance to see lakes, deserts, snow-capped peaks, swamps, and grasslands, all in a couple of days. Our Coyhaique tourist route planner makes visiting Carretera Austral and other Coyhaique attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • Without a doubt, a beauty like no other in the world; Southern Chile hides jungles and forests for its climate extremely wet, and always accompanied by rivers, streams and waterfalls route. National parks like the Quelat are amazing, with dozens of waterfalls and glaciers can be seen. Route 7 is still in process of asphalt and the majority is still gravel, although in good condition, it can be complicated at times of rain, I recommend consulting the climate because it is quite common to landslides and route cuts, leaving stranded days as it has happened to me in the area of Puyuhuapi. Surrounded by fjords and overlooking the Pacific, is a path that you can not miss.

  • I have traveled twice to the austral Highway, one in particular vehicle to calm river and the cathedrals of marble in a tour from Coyhaique to Caleta Tortel. If you like the adventure and enjoy the unspoiled nature, the trip is unforgettable, unlike any experience, I recommend it.

  • I took a tour "Caleta Tortel and Chile Chico" from Monday to Monday with Geotourism... The experience was wonderful for the quantity of landscapes and fantastic places that we could go. It is advisable to 100% but there are things that the company of tourism needs to address. Our guide behaved a 7, nothing to say Javier Navarro... big! the was our driver and guide for a group of 11 people... A very rich group is armed, we toured Chile Chico, Puerto Ibáñez, Cochrane, Guadal, Puerto Bertrand and of course Tortel and the Isle of the dead. At this point the company must repair: Tortel accommodation is very poor, is Baker House not a hotel as it promotes and the owner is not the best, I would never stay at home Baker. The tour also includes breakfast... They leave much to desire the only day they surrendered a good service was when we stayed in Terra Luna Lodge, the rest of the breakfast were a disgrace. Patagonia is a wonder the company should improve!
