4.5/5 based on 170+ reviews on the web
Drive through scenic rural Patagonia on Carretera Austral. The highway, commenced during Pinochet’s rule and completed in the early 2000's, takes you on a 1,240 km (770.5 mi) journey through a staggering variety of landscapes. Pass lush green forests, national parks, and volcanoes while the road curves, becomes steeper, or narrows between rocky mountain passes. Visit quaint cities and villages along the way, and take detours to go kayaking or see the glaciers. A road trip on the Southern Highway offers a chance to see lakes, deserts, snow-capped peaks, swamps, and grasslands, all in a couple of days. Our Coyhaique tourist route planner makes visiting Carretera Austral and other Coyhaique attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • Is really pretty, you can make this trip by car or bicycle, you are surrounded by the river all the time, you'll haave a wonderfull view all the way.
  • We toured the southern road with my partner in late February and early March for 15 days. Climate accompanied 100%, any rainy day! We start in Puerto Montt, we went through Hornopiren, Pumalin, Chaiten, Villa Santa Lucia, Futalenfu, La Junta, Puyuhuapi, Puerto Aysen, San Rafael Lagoon, Coyhaique, Puerto Tranquilo, Cochrane, Tortel, Villa O´higgins, Chile Chico and Puerto Ibáñez, logically through the intermediate towns. The truth is that time is made us quick, so much so we thought to repeat for 3 weeks this summer. Absolutely safety pins are: Pumalin, Queulat, enchanted forest, Futaleufu, Villa O´higgs, chapels of the marble, General Carrera Lake. Tortel, is for a quick pasadita. We calculate the $50,000 per night and $10,000 each for food and walked perfect. Carry several memory cards, swear them that they will need them.

  • The exuberant nature of lakes, rivers, ice and ancient trees helped support the disorganization of the Geotourism Patagonia company. Eight days and seven nights tour goes and returns by the same circuits of the austral Highway South, doing grueling sessions above uncomfortable vehicles or damaged seats. There were activities such as hiking, horseback riding or fishing. Good hospitality, with exception of House Baker in Caleta Tortel. Its infrastructure is consistent with what can offer this picturesque maritime enclave, but attention was poor. We didn't expect anyone, the rooms were open to the runways (because there are no sidewalks or streets) and notoriously desaseadas. The sheets were dirty and the kitchen had the stacked dishes, unwashed. Passengers had to clean, find a suitable room and make us breakfast. A shame for what you pay. Geotourism Patagonia must improve their services if it is to survive in the field of tourism. The authorities should supervise.
