Playa la virgen, Caldera

3.7
#2 of 25 in Things to do in Atacama Region
Stranded on the coast in the middle of desert dunes and hills, Playa la virgen attracts visitors with its white sand and calm turquoise waters. A bit remote and difficult to access, this pristine beach focuses on ecotourism. Pick a place on a wooden sun lounger under a straw umbrella, or bring your own beach equipment. If you wish to stay overnight, rent one of the wooden cabins in the surrounding hills overlooking the beach. Amenities include public restrooms, a spacious parking lot, and a restaurant. Bring cash and prepare to spend a day without mobile phone service. See Playa la virgen and all Caldera has to offer by arranging your trip with our Caldera vacation route planner.

Beautiful beach, the camping sites are quite comfortable and very nice view. In moments the bathroom had no water, however, the owner offered us bottled water to take. Very attentive. Tb was clean while there was water. Access is not so clear but Internet maps show directions. It is worthwhile to stay a few days on camping or cabins or by day to take advantage of the Beach Road.

We went for a while taking advantage of that we were by the sector. The road is not in very good conditions. But the spot on the beach looks very good. Perhaps the day not much favored. But without a doubt we will return in season.

It is one of the beaches most beautiful in Copiapo, the way to get is super bad at the entrance to leave your car outside and you get off on foot (if you take many things I do not recommend it) or by car but must pay like 10 thousand dollars I think.

The main selection of accommodations in Caldera lie just north of Batallion Atacama, offering good access to the waterfront and the town's main amenities, including restaurants, cafes, and stores. Hotels of great variety sit on the major boulevards and side streets, while rental apartments offer a good option for those planning an extended stay. Consider exploring the lodging options of the coastal areas north and south of town, where small boutique and resort-style hotels make good use of the extra space with additional facilities and extensive views of the coast, just a short drive from the conveniences of the main urban area.
