  • A high plateau is something unique in the world, because in the Highlands is not the dryness but the height that limits and determines the life: stronger and more specialized only flora and fauna can survive the vagaries of a life of over 3,500 meters. We must remember that it is composed by the fusion of ashes from hundreds of volcanoes along the cajón. Currently, the Chilean altiplano is home to a traditional society of Indians Aymara, wandering between volcanoes and marshy wetlands with their llamas and domesticated alpacas. Periodically gather to honor their Saints in spooky ceremonial 'peoples', bleached by lime. And in the Highlands is the Lauca National Park, recognized as one of the Mundilaes of the biosphere reserves by UNESCO. The Lauca Park is the most accessible of the Chilean Altiplano. Here is the Chungara Lake, one of the lakes at higher altitudes in the world, and swamps that constitute a single community of wildlife habitat, including American camelids in wild state, vicuñas and guanacos and more than one hundred species of birds.
