Museo Arqueologico San Miguel de Azapa, Arica

4.4
At Museo Arqueologico San Miguel de Azapa, come face to face with the oldest mummies ever discovered. Accessible by a dirt road in the middle of the baking Atacama Desert, the small university-run museum displays important exhibits. Tour the museum on your own with the help of a guide book, available in several languages. Find the famous Chincorro mummies, dating from between 7020 and 1500 BCE and believed to be the oldest in the world, and don't miss the petroglyph park, the museum's outdoor exhibit of indigenous stone carvings. • If you are Arica, you can not miss this Museum, which exhibits the oldest mummies of the world, that there is no doubt. While I thought the show was complete, I believe for a 1 hour visit he is well, but I think still more information. The sample is interesting, well explained, but I think lack them even more content and translate the complete information. It is easy to get to the outsiders like me. You take a collective (yellow taxi) out of international bus (next to the national terminal) and charge you $1200 per person. Apart is the staff, the receptionist is very unpleasant, I saw that they had some Audio guides available and I asked one, his reply was "Are for foreigners", and I asked why? "" and tells me: "You are English", I understand English, can I use one then, his response was that "they were failing". I lost no time and I continued my journey, but I found it absurd, when I visit museums I like listening to a guide or audio guide to miss me details of the place I'm visiting, especially if I come from so far and probably my only opportunity to visit the Museum. At the end of the tour, timely closing time I began to take off, which I understand, because it is the closing time, but I was finishing to take some pictures and explained that staff and I turned off the light. I do not say that they have no right to close to the stipulated time, but one is so excited and they had at least notified 10 minutes before and so one ends of doing what you want to do and is not left with that bad feeling. Overview training lacks personnel to be part of the best experience of a visit to this place. If you have audio guide should be available to all visitors, it is an absurdity that is only in English, in fact even I doubt so. I do not recommend going only to the Museum or take a private tour that will just take them to the Museum, go by the collective taxi charged by CLP$ 1200 per person. Not being that they hire a tour with an experienced guide that guide them in the Museum too, especially to those who do not speak Spanish.

  • Travel to arica and not to visit the Museum of the mummies Chinchorro is as beberese a warm beer. There are the oldest mummies in the world. Some have 10 thousand years. It is located in the Valley of Azapa, the Orchard from Chile in winter.

  • I feel disappointed, there is fabrics, dyeing, accessories, little mummies, nor compared as the Museum was in the 1980. They say that 1 year ago are in the process of remodeling.

  • Is partially closed for remodeling, no doubt sample Chinchorro, historically is perhaps the most relevant area
