El Morro de Arica, Arica

#1 of 31 in Things to do in Arica
Landmark Tourist Spot
Admire sweeping views of the city and sea on El Morro de Arica, a centrally located hill. From the top, you can see the city, port, and cliff towering over the rocks and water below. A statue of Jesus stands on the hill, as does a military history museum. Locals tend to visit the place, so this makes a good spot to meet some people from the area. A quick, steep walk from the center will get you there, or you can hire a taxi. Bring your own food and water. • The Morro de Arica is the icon of the northernmost city of Chile, so when you visit the city of the eternal spring must know and to its top, to achieve it there are two options, the first vehicle and the second walk, first ascending stairs and then along a steep path, so if you choose the second option they should go with shoes low and comfortable, as you can slip and fall if they do not take precautions, also people with difficulty walking should explore if you can climb this route. At the top were found with historical weapons Museum, which has a cost of $1,000 Chilean pesos (about US$ 2 dollars), you can also see different monuments related to the taking of el Morro, their heroes and the citizens of the city, and you can enjoy a beautiful view of the city of Arica and the Azapa Valley and the harbor and ocean. Really recommended.

  • The Morro de Arica is undoubtedly one of the biggest attractions this city boasts. With 110 meters in height, it is possible to access a panoramic view of the surrounding area, and historical vestiges that recall the war episode that starred in the country in the 19th century, a museum located at the top. The rock belonging to the Cordillera de la Costa, was the main strength in the war of the Pacific, where are the strong Citadel, strong East, the strong fat nose and Morro under Naval Base. It is possible to distinguish cannons, the bust of Colonel Pedro Lagos and the monument to the unknown soldier.
