El Morro de Arica, Arica

(1,100+ reviews on the web)
Landmark
Admire sweeping views of the city and sea on El Morro de Arica, a centrally located hill. From the top, you can see the city, port, and cliff towering over the rocks and water below. A statue of Jesus stands on the hill, as does a military history museum. Locals tend to visit the place, so this makes a good spot to meet some people from the area. A quick, steep walk from the center will get you there, or you can hire a taxi. Bring your own food and water. • A wondelful and historic place, stil it is possible to feel peruvian soul in this place. Has a beautiful view of the city.  more »
  • Walked up from Colon Street. Past the Peruvian Consulate (which really must irk them). Good walk, not too far or steep, but wear good shoes. The Chilean Army was practicing "battles" for a reenactment...  more »
  • The highest hill in the city is the rocky cliff of El Morro. There is a pedestrian walkway to the top but it will be quicker to take a taxi . We went for a walk and had the panoramic view of the harbo...  more »

  • The Morro de Arica is undoubtedly one of the biggest attractions this city boasts. With 110 meters in height, it is possible to access a panoramic view of the surrounding area, and historical vestiges that recall the war episode that starred in the country in the 19th century, a museum located at the top. The rock belonging to the Cordillera de la Costa, was the main strength in the war of the Pacific, where are the strong Citadel, strong East, the strong fat nose and Morro under Naval Base. It is possible to distinguish cannons, the bust of Colonel Pedro Lagos and the monument to the unknown soldier.

  • It is the attraction of the city, has potential but lack a good administration, the surroundings are not clean and there is lot of investment on the part of the municipality.
