Catedral de San Marcos, Arica
(3.8/5 based on 220+ reviews on the web)
Appreciate the architecture and learn the history of Catedral de San Marcos, a Catholic cathedral declared to be a National Monument of Chile in 1984. Designed by famous French engineer Gustave Eiffel--whose other work includes the tower in Paris that bears his name--the neo-Gothic building consists mainly of metal, except for the two wooden doors. The lively facade, adorned in colorful decorations, complements the look of its surroundings. A church bell, which was itself declared an historic monument in 2002, stands out as the main attraction inside. • Unfortunately not could visit it because is located in repairs, although in the time that spent in Arica, never saw to anyone working. Apparently it is very nice so it can be seen from the outside behind the walls. Although I did not know it, happy to know that they care about heritage.
