  • These are the vast salt flats of Chile located south of San Pedro de Atacama along the Andes mountain range. There are several volcanoes dominating the landscape, and part of the attraction lies in th...  more »
  • Beautiful landscapes, not to be missed. It is surprising to see colors with the rays of the Sun and learn about how it will fit this salt.

  • Amazing place with an equally amazing sunset. Opportunity to view flamingos, in your natural habit. Only allowed to walk the footpaths marked pay input, don't remember the value, but it's not much. Is one of the unmissable sightseeing to do.

  • A beautiful and exotic experience! You can get pretty close to the flamingos.
  • Nothing to see here.... !!!
  • Between lagoons, these crusts of salt completely tormented, like petrified rough wavelets, form a unique relief taking under the effect of the winds of sand, ochre, pink and beige hues. The Salar of Atacama is a huge Lake (160 km long and 130 km wide!) in the middle of the desert, which owes its name to his incredible crust of salt and minerals, formed by the surge and then a huge salty groundwater evaporation. The kaleidoscope of colors reflected on its surface according to the Twilights as well as the majestic flight of the flamingos who have chosen to live on its shores are a magical vision enjoy

  • Very exotic and unique salt flat near the town of Atacama. It should be noted that the Salar de Atacama is the third largest in the world, with 3,000 Km ² of extension, second only to the Salar de Uyuni, in Bolivia, and the Great Salt Lake, USA. And although not all white as your neighbor's gorgeous Bolivian also possess a fully rugged surface, a result of high evaporation of groundwater from saline content intense. In the middle of all these salt crystals, found the Laguna Chaxa, which is the mating of flamingos more accessible. Three of the five species that exist in the world can be seen there.

  • The predominant colors in the Salar de Atacama, as in most of the Atacama, are blue and Brown. The flamingos add shades of pink. I saw the 3 types of flamingos (--great or--or Chilean and Andean--chica or James) here nest (feed on a tiny little shrimp, Artemias, who lives in the salty lagoons and pink feathers of flamingos ... who knew there life around here). The salar has about 30% of the world's lithium reserves. I saw a lot of laparita stones used in construction (by beating the stones listen as if it was the sound of a Bell, hence the name in English of bellstone). These stones come to cost $8 each.
