Plaza Colon, Antofagasta

3.4
An ideal place to rest, Plaza Colon remains Antofagasta's main square and home of the famous Clock Tower, a replica of London's Big Ben erected in honor of the centennial of Chile's independence. The square also boasts a statue of Isabella and Ferdinand, a gift from Spain, a cathedral, library, and the Retreat Kiosk, donated by Yugoslav immigrants. Rest in the shade of palm trees after exploring the city or have a refreshing drink in a cafe. • The site draws attention for its monuments and architecture, its spaces are clean and well taken care of and is located very close to the commercial centre of Antofagasta, in case you want to make some to buy or get a cup of coffee.

  • visit forced, you have the Cathedral and there are parking lots to the around, what I liked most was the clock in the center of this.

  • Very nice, in the heart of Antofagasta. It has some wonderful pools that feel like bathing. Square has lots of history and certainly worth a go to see it.

  • It is one of the most traditional sights in Antofagasta. You may well find music or fairs all year long. And there is a pretty good coffe spot. The coffe trolley is part of charity coffe for homeless. The water fountain is great for pictures and also statues of renowned people and animals. The site is closed too banks, food stores the Pier, and the shoping Mall. Before you leave take a picture of the central tower Clock, which resembles the Big Ben. BYE
  • Even I love it, just rating three stars, you see, Antofagasta is not a "square" city, people doesn't spend much time at the plaza, activities are on the shore mainly, nevertheless it has some English elements, such a small Big Ben and lions such as those in London, in fact, it was a gift from the British people for 100th anniversary of Chile
  • It's a very pretty place full of historical significance and one of few places where you'll find a bench in the shade to sit and relax for awhile. The downside is that you won't be able to sit for more than a few minutes before a gypsy or panhandler asks you for money.
  • It's nice place to see when you are in the city centre, but its not do special
