Parque Cultural Ruinas de Huanchaca, Antofagasta

(3.9/5 based on 280+ reviews on the web)
Imagine the roar of machinery in motion more than a century ago at Parque Cultural Ruinas de Huanchaca, an abandoned silver foundry. When it opened in 1892, the building was the most modern refinery in South America, though its technology soon became outdated and the site closed in 1902. The thick stone walls create a bold impression in the surrounding desert landscape, and the well-preserved interior offers a good introduction to the silver refining process. Explanations of the processes and machinery used, presented as informative exhibits, paint a picture of the people who worked in the building. • First, the Museum has absolutely nothing to do with the ruins. There is also no information about the ruins except a wall where you can imagine that it is. In general bad attention, little information, not worth the 2000 entry. And when you leave and going close to the ruins, the only sign that might help you to know what it is for is in a bad state. All evil.

  • For those who don't know, the whole of the North of Chile belonged to Bolivia, including the outskirts of Santiago, Chile. The ruin was for the manufacture of copper if I'm not mistaken. Worth the visit.

  • Very interesting, could be improved. The Museum is appealing, but still lacks more development, more "show history".
