Parque Cultural Ruinas de Huanchaca, Antofagasta

4.1
#2 of 9 in Museums in Antofagasta Region
Specialty Museum Museum
Imagine the roar of machinery in motion more than a century ago at Parque Cultural Ruinas de Huanchaca, an abandoned silver foundry. When it opened in 1892, the building was the most modern refinery in South America, though its technology soon became outdated and the site closed in 1902. The thick stone walls create a bold impression in the surrounding desert landscape, and the well-preserved interior offers a good introduction to the silver refining process. Explanations of the processes and machinery used, presented as informative exhibits, paint a picture of the people who worked in the building. • Really an encounter with history, the development of mining and Antofagasta. It has an excellent audio-visual room, permanent and strict samples. Worth and with children to make known mining and city development.

  • When one regards the ruins from the coast from Antofagasta to the Hill, it is difficult to understand that so much history has passed through those rugged landscapes, which were the structural foundations of the industrial establishment Beach white of the company Minera of Huanchaca de Bolivia (Bolivian, Chilean and British interests company), going back to the history of 1888 when it began its construction. Knowing who owned the Pulacayo Silver (to 10 km to the Northwest of Uyuni) mines and Oruro, where down the ore to Antofagasta. All this is daydreaming and associated situations, as in the case of thinking was built thanks to the agreement between the company Huanchaca miner and the Compañía de Salitres y Ferrocarril de Antofagasta (after negotiations between the Chilean Melchor de Concha y Toro, know the name in the Chilean wine, and the Bolivian Aniceto Arce) to transport ore from the Bolivian mines until the future refinery in out soil. Wonders of the II Region of Antofagasta.

  • If you want to know the history of Afta you must go to the Park. There you'll see ruins and you will know because they are and when and for q were. They have a very nice Museum, a team of working small making juggling to get later this place. Lack them support from the authorities. It could be a cultural great point. They have a cafeteria with variety. The boys have much fun. Do not miss it. Very cute place.
