Parque Cultural Ruinas de Huanchaca, Antofagasta
(3.9/5 based on 260+ reviews on the web)
Imagine the roar of machinery in motion more than a century ago at Parque Cultural Ruinas de Huanchaca, an abandoned silver foundry. When it opened in 1892, the building was the most modern refinery in South America, though its technology soon became outdated and the site closed in 1902. The thick stone walls create a bold impression in the surrounding desert landscape, and the well-preserved interior offers a good introduction to the silver refining process. Explanations of the processes and machinery used, presented as informative exhibits, paint a picture of the people who worked in the building. • At first glance the structure of ancient silver smelting stands out as if it were an ancient castle of oriente, in the midst of buildings and houses. It is valuable as teaching and explanatory graphics resources posed the main hall and the beautiful view that exist towards the ruins. The second room explains the diverse natural resources that exist in the area, with a large sample. Localidad, a replica well achieved exposure and the impressive remains of the skull and tusks. Very poor information. The last Hall discusses astronomical observation centres in the area, the presentation is striking but very little information actually. As well as several previous comments the site is attractive but not convinced his speech and idea dealing with legal or preserved as Museum. To personal opinion, the Museum meets the supremacy of great economic, political and social interests of the private sector that tries to justify the exploitation of non-renewable natural resources in the area, using this platform as propaganda to their interests.
