  • It was good to get to know this place, however, we are left with the feeling that could have removed more of the guided visit - which lasted 2 and a half hours! The introduction room and the video is a joke.

  • 22 days in Chile and this may have been the visit that I most enjoyed. Of course it wasn't easy to get; I did it without a car and after enjoying a great night hike. It could not put any hits to the visit: the guidelines were clear, friendly, they knew what they were talking. I visited from the inside of the telescope to the cafés of the office: showed us areas of work of the astronomers and the area in which they were staying. By putting a snag: would have been amazing to visit the area with telescopes operating...

  • The daytime tour consists of an introduction video and after a visit by the facilities of the venue. It is best to see enormous infrastructure one of the telescopic from the inside, while the guide tells the function of each of its parts. In addition, you can see a beautiful view of the surroundings, both the coast and the mountains. There one realizes what privileged is Chile in terms of weather conditions. It is true that it is not an Observatory with telescopes like the Mamalluca, but for amateur astronomy, definitely worth much worth taking the time and observe one of the largest and most important in the world. Some interesting facts:-the tour is free, upon reservation via web and confirmation by mail. -Had not - so - restrictions by cameras or video - plan and try to get half an hour before the schedule to enter peaceful and not miss anything, especially if you don't walk with the paper form - the car journey from Antofagasta takes like an hour and a half, while from Taltal is a little less, but the slope Paposo is extensive and you should go with caution. Go well equipped, there will be no bencinera or anything that assists you in the desert. -If you don't have a car or going on "backpacking" plan: see for tours to that journey. Another option is to travel in Tur Bus (no other fleet that pass by the main route, unfortunately) and leave it at the junction of the road to the Paranal. Hence for entry must walk about 2 to 3 kms. For the way back, try someone in the audience to take it. Is difficult to "make finger" there. Along the road there is little traffic and spend mostly truckers who most likely will not stop to take it. It more safe is wait and stop one of the Tur Bus to pass by there. -Go with blocker and sheltered by layers. If you are in 10:30 in the morning can do much cold, especially in the top of the Hill, although later in the afternoon, on a partial day, the sun beats strong. -Note that this is more than 2500 masl. If not is accustomed to the height, avoid running and shake it.
