Pinguineras, Ancud

(4.1/5 based on 280+ reviews on the web)
Meet the local wildlife at Pinguineras, small islands that shelter penguin colonies. Just off the coast of Punihuil's beach, the islands are home to two species of penguins, the Humboldt and the Magellanic. Take a boat trip around the windy islands, enjoy the views of the surrounding area from the beach, or visit the restaurant that serves fresh seafood and empanadas. Besides the penguins, you will see many seabirds here--if you're lucky, you might spot otters, sea lions, and even a whale. Plan your visit to Pinguineras and a wealth of other attractions, well-known and undiscovered, using our Ancud holiday planner.

  • The ride itself is beautiful. Soon after arriving on the beach, offered us the walk through 7000 pesos per person. Lasted about 40 minutes, the boat stops near 4 islets, where there are colonies of penguins. At least when we went (end of February, we did the afternoon), we saw many penguins from the boat, in addition to several species of birds, and yet we've been lucky to see a dolphin from a distance. It is worth remembering that for who leaves Puerto Varas, how do we get, is far. Heading some 60 kms to the ferry (near the town of Pargua), where we boarded the car paying 12000 pesos per piece and remains a half an hour. Leaving the ferry, a few more 30 kms to Ancud, city close to the pinguineras. We left the car in the parking lot at the beach where the boats leave for the ride.
