Stingray City, Grand Cayman

4.8
#1 of 75 in Parks in Cayman Islands
Make some lasting snorkeling memories at Stingray City, a string of shallow sandbars frequented by friendly southern stingrays. The area became a meeting place for these creatures decades ago, when local fishermen began cleaning their fish in the shallow waters and supplied the rays with an abundant source of food. Today, the sandbars draw numerous tour boats, which allow divers to disembark and interact with stingrays in the chest-deep water. Most tour operators bring pails of squid meat, which you can distribute to the gathering rays by hand. Many tours also provide snorkeling gear--you don't need it to see the rays, but it comes in handy if you intend to explore deeper areas of Grand Cayman's North Sound. Put Stingray City into our West Bay trip planner and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

  • We hire the tour leaving the boat at the pier we were offered to go to swim with stingrays and then go to snorkel for $40 per person (if you pay with a card are $2 more per person). They take you by truck to cross the island, then by boat to where are the stripes. It is in the midst of the sea, long boat and much tourist, however stripes Yes approaching (give them to eat and even you can feed them). The guides know very well how to charging and you can do it for the photo. The water reaches to the waist or chest of an average person (do not need to know how to swim) and is safe for children. You can touch them, they do not touch you but you go swimming very close. They are accustomed to people. We were about 45 minutes there and then we went to the snorkeling. Get mask & snorkel, you can see corals and small fish, some sea urchins. It is a beautiful experience. The boat gave us natural water and even to rinse us salt helped us with fresh water. In total the hard tour like 3 hours aprox. What if I saw is that a couple jetsky came to the place and I would like most to do so but did not know that it was a choice. It would be worthwhile to search before leaving or arriving, that sort of excursion.
