  • One of the most beautiful lakes in Western Canada. The colors are changing all day long. There are treks to do all around the lake and above in the mountains. It allows to get a different perspective ...  more »
  • Emerald Lake is the largest lake in the garden of Yoho, and the lake in the sun shines a deep superficial of different green colors, known as "The Emerald of the Los Angeles Mountains." We walk along the Lakeside trail, appreciating the sponge peaks and the Flies Juice pines and cypresses that are reflected in the lake. .... The most important thing is to imagine how blue the lake should be, if it were not for the Rocky Mountains after the fire. Hey!

  • Simply magnificent! Breathtaking and beautiful. A must see if you're in the area. Absolutely worth the trip! I would go back here again in a heartbeat. Amazing photos to be taken here! Just relax and enjoy the beautiful nature this country has to offer.
  • This lake is absolutely gorgeous! I highly recommend the Plain of Six Glaciers hike. It's not especially strenuous, and it offers amazing close-up views of the glaciers. If you pay attention, you'll be able to hear, and maybe see, the occasional avalanche. It gets really crowded, so arrive before 8:30am for easy parking and less competition for photo spots.
  • Emerald Lake lives up to the name. Expect to see some of the greenest water that you have ever seen in your life. I recommend to take the trail around the lake because there are just endless different views and perspectives from which to enjoy the lake.
  • We were here on Victoria Day. The hiking trail around the lake takes around 2 to 2.5 hours. Very easy and beautiful trail! A time well spent with my kids. The only challenging part of the trail is this enormous and stubborn block of ice that would not melt even in May and blocked our trail. It wasn't much fun climbing with my five year old and my slippery runners.
  • Absolutely loved visiting this lake. My kids and teens both enjoyed themselves. We had to wait a very long time to get a parking spot so that put a damper on things but we want to go back and rent canoes ($60 per hour, up to 3 adults per canoe, 4 people if some are kids). There is a cute cute restaurant and also a little snack window right close to the lake, along with an adorable gift shop where you rent the canoes. A 2 minute walk will get you to the lodge. This was worth the drive and the wait for a parking space. Will be back to enjoy by canoe and also to do the hike around the lake!

Where to stay in Yoho National Park

Despite its isolated location, Yoho National Park offers a handful of luxury accommodations, most along Scenic Route 1. Some of the park's more remote lodges are accessible only by private transport. These isolated retreats--many of which deliberately avoid TV reception or Wi-Fi--typically cost a pretty penny. If you're looking for something a bit more affordable, consider staying in nearby Lake Louise or Banff and head to the park on a day trip.
