Cape Forchu Lightstation, Yarmouth

4.7
#1 of 58 in Sightseeing in Southwest Nova Scotia
Lighthouse Tourist Spot
Head to the edge of the rocky headland and climb to the top of Cape Forchu Lightstation, a lighthouse operational since 1840 surrounded by untouched, natural landscape. The tower features an "apple core" design, painted in white and red. A museum operates in the lightkeeper's house, exhibiting an array of photos and memorabilia. Pop into the tourist shop where you can buy handmade items such as small handcrafted buoys, glass ornaments, and beach glass items. You can also walk around the park that surrounds the lighthouse, which features paths, picnic sites, and views of the coast and open water. Put Cape Forchu Lightstation into our Yarmouth family vacation planner and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

  • Really cool place. Lots to see with great photo opportunities. Really enjoyed our time there even though we were fogged out. Can't wait to go back on a clear day.
  • Not a good day for sightseeing. Foggy. But, still a great place to visit. In a boat 🚣, on a day like this! 🌫🌫 Not me!!! Thank you!
  • This Lighthouse is hands-down one of the best that I have ever been to. It is so park like and has so much to offer I don't understand why anyone would want to go to Peggy's Cove instead of here. I regularly Drive 45 minutes just to be there
  • Well designed museum, good signage, informative site, and I love the hand knit socks from the gift shop.
  • Typically beautiful NS scenery! A great fellow in the museum that was very helpful. Ps: there are washrooms inside the building but obviously they are only available when it is open. I will go back again I am sure. Awesome history and artifacts, I would recommend stopping to anyone traveling in the area.
