Cape Forchu Lightstation, Yarmouth

Head to the edge of the rocky headland and climb to the top of Cape Forchu Lightstation, a lighthouse operational since 1840 surrounded by untouched, natural landscape. The tower features an "apple core" design, painted in white and red. A museum operates in the lightkeeper's house, exhibiting an array of photos and memorabilia. Pop into the tourist shop where you can buy handmade items such as small handcrafted buoys, glass ornaments, and beach glass items. You can also walk around the park that surrounds the lighthouse, which features paths, picnic sites, and views of the coast and open water. • It is a alovely spot - nice trail through parts of the place with good information everywhere. The view is lovely and just watching the water splash across the rocks is memorizing  more »
  • What a beautiful place and we are so happy we stumbled on to it. The rock formations were so interesting and even though the lighthouse was closed for the season, it was so worth visiting.  more »
  • A lighthouse very photographed in Nova Scotia. And who is popular with newlyweds. When you know the Breton headlights, one tends to laugh... Toilets available on the site but small enough parking.

  • The lighthouse was closed down for the season. But you can walk around the grounds which were beautiful. It was a little bit of a stormy day, so the waves were awesome! Spent an hour just watching the waves.
  • Groomed and accessible walks across a rocky cliff. For the reasonably adventurous, there's good vistas and interesting rock formations, quite safe and pretty.
  • We didn't get inside of the building and only walked outside. The views were good, not amazing. The parking is very limited. I don't regret going but not something worth doing twice.
  • Very cool local geology. Great food and very interesting museum. Staff were very helpful and friendly.
  • Well worth visiting. The staff was friendly and helpful and the food was great. The walking trail was enjoyable and the view from the rocks was spectacular.
