Lot of different food outlets with a wide variety of foods to choose from. Get some from multiple places. We had 4 kinds of empanadas and pizza by the slice.  more »

Granted, it was quite a distance to walk to that end of down town but the shops at this market were great. What's a vacation with out stopping at some gift and souvenir shops? This market had it all. ...  more »

This is the one most popular historical place in Winnipeg. If you are visiting Winnipeg for the very first time, make a point to go to the forks, especially on weekends. They usually have some entertainment for everyone all year round. It is mostly a family friendly place and the activities are usually planned to entertain both the young and the old, and everyone in between. It is also one of the places from where you can learn more about where to go in Manitoba and what to see. The tourist information centre there can be very helpful if you are interested in knowing about places to visit in Manitoba. You can also eat, dance, go on the water for a boat ride, buy your Manitoba souvenirs and a lot more. It is a great place place. See the Red and the Assiboine River merge into one big river.

Perfect place to spend a day off in the summer. Boat rides on the river, walking distance to the Canadian Human rights museum, and a spectacular old forks market. Not your average shopping or dining experience. Really speaks to Winnipeg's culture and heritage. Skating and restaurants on the river in the winter, and weekends usually have entertainment of some sort. Parking is no longer free though, so that blows.

There has been a really good revival of the forks in the last couple of years. Go for a boat tour of the area, come skating in the winter. There is often free public events happening here which makes the forks all the more interesting. Go to the Commons in the Pavillion which has a decent selection of wine and beer and serves beer and wine flights. There is a wide selection of food available from different countries. There is plenty of cool handmade items on the second floor. Plenty of space to take a walk, or sit down.

Lots of interesting things to see here. The rivers & surrounding area are beautiful, plus all of the historical displays and information are very interesting. It's also a great place for public events and music festivals. There's also much indoors that I didn't check out.

There's always something happening here, events, local concerts, definitely the place to go in the summer time on weekends. Canada day is always crazy busy and exciting. Most of the shops sell pretty unique items. The coolest addition as of late has been the common bar and fools and horses coffee in the centre food court.

Where to stay in Winnipeg

For easy access to entertainment, look north of Downtown to the hip Exchange District--here you'll find some of the city's most pleasant historical architecture, as well as its most happening bar scene. If you want to mingle with the city's hipsters, stay in the leafy riverfront suburb of Wolseley, where organic markets and "fair trade" cafes abound. If you're just planning to visit Winnipeg for a night or two, you can find a range of accommodations close to the airport.
