  • A nice zoo with a great reason for its existence. Definitely worth a visit to see a very limited number of animals. Keep your fingers crossed & hope that you get to see polars, wolves, foxes & seals.  more »
  • This park is so lovely to spend a few hours in. Make sure to walk through the Leo Mol outdoor sculpture garden, the English Garden, visit the Nature's Playground, stop by the Park Café for a snack, wa...  more »
  • We had a guided and behind the scenes tour of the Northern part of the zoo (in preparation for our trip to Churchill). A very nice flow, easy to walk. Nice that the zoo does not breed polar bears but ...  more »

  • It's a shame that they are ripping out century old tress to create new attractions, however the park is a beautiful place with great walking, hiking, or biking trails. A perfect place to spend the summer for movies or ballet in the park, jazz in the park garden, and bee-together bikes for friends and family. I've lived and traveled across a lot of Canada and by far one of my favourite parks. Absolutely awful roads however, so leave your low riding luxury cars at home.

  • With all their renovations and additions to the park you'd think they could afford to maintain their soccer pitches at least somewhat. Fields are filled with small bumps and holes, terrible for reliably controlling the ball. The grass by the nets are completely gone, making it difficult for the keeper to make saves without getting scraped up by the hard dirt. Construction fences have also been erected right behind one of the nets, making any ball that misses the net have the possibility of being lost over the fence with no entrance. Players have to climb over the fence after the game since there is not way in. The other end has a forest, which is equally as frustrating when it comes to finding and losing soccer balls. I expected better from Assiniboine Park, I hope the pitches can be improved soon this summer.
  • Lots of kid friendly areas, open green space and paths for walking and bike riding. A perfect place to have an outdoor get together with friends and/or family. There are some fire pits in the western parts of the park. All in all, it's a great park!
  • Awesome park in the middle of a quiet residential neighborhood. Extensive paved paths. Inspired new playground area. Free outdoor shows at the pavilion all summer. Leo mol garden has amazing flowers and is informative!

Where to stay in Winnipeg

For easy access to entertainment, look north of Downtown to the hip Exchange District--here you'll find some of the city's most pleasant historical architecture, as well as its most happening bar scene. If you want to mingle with the city's hipsters, stay in the leafy riverfront suburb of Wolseley, where organic markets and "fair trade" cafes abound. If you're just planning to visit Winnipeg for a night or two, you can find a range of accommodations close to the airport.
