Canadian Club Brand Centre, Windsor

4.5
#2 of 54 in Breweries in Ontario
One of the country's most venerated distilleries, Canadian Club Brand Centre has operated in this location since 1858. Take a guided tour for insight into the distilling process, a history lesson on the building's ornate architecture, and, of course, a sample of premium whiskeys. Expert guides also offer an interesting historical background on the distillery's effects on neighboring prohibition-hit Detroit. Try the 100-percent rye for something special. We went there with friends of ours about 1-2 years ago. The tour was excellent. You learn a lot about the history including Al Capone. At the end of the tour you get a sample.  more »

WARNING...Do not go unless you have tickets. We drove from various Detroit suburbs to take the early 11 AM tour on Saturday March 25th. We waited in the cold for the building to open with about 45 others. At the time the doors opened and about 20 were admitted a female employee stuck a sign on the wall that said the tour was full. Also that all the tours for the balance of weekend were full. Some people had purchased tickets in advance. They offered tickets for next Friday (the very last day tours would be given.) We had enough Canadian hospitality for the year, the staff employee was less than pleasant. Took our money back to Detroit and went to the Outdoor Adventure Center--it was a bargain and very well done.

Great historical and architectural tour of the main office building, including a basement speakeasy, lavish decor and tastings after the tour. The bad news is that the tour permanently ends in March 2017. Hopefully the corporate decision-makers change their minds.

An interesting tour through a beautiful heritage building, followed by a whiskey tasting. A great way for a few friends to spend an afternoon. Great selection of items in the gift shop too.

Great place for a tour and some historical perspective on Hiram Walker's presence in Windsor. The tastings is the highlight of the tour. My out of town guests had a good time!

Didn't even know this was here. Definitely worth the tour.

Where to stay in Windsor

Accommodations in the border city cater primarily to transit travelers, with a range of motels and basic inns serving as affordable places to rest. Look to Huron Church Road--the main thoroughfare approaching the border--for the biggest selection of transitory accommodations. If you're hoping to explore the city itself, you can find a few more inviting hotels in the center, with the most exclusive of these offering views over the Detroit River.
