  • As some have mentioned, the road up to the car park is not bad, we went up at the end of October, still no snow on the ground with a rather small hire car and made it up just fine. The walk to the lak...  more »

  • First, the road to the parking lot isn't as bad as some have reported. I got up there in a Nissan Sentra no problem, just dodge the bigger potholes and take it slow on the slightly rougher sections. T...  more »

  • Wonderful place. The lake is gorgeous! I've been to the area twice (Cheakamus lake trail and Helm lake tail). I highly suggest as this is a less crowded place with lots of beautiful things to see.
  • A great hike with a gorgeous view. One star docked for the 7km pot-hole-ridden "road". Be careful what kind of car you drive to get to the parking lot.
  • My favorite place for hiking and camping. If you are camping you should go all the way to Singing Creek it's the most beautiful spot on the lake and fewer people make it that far.
  • A one night sleepover: We started by renting bikes in Whistler and biking down to function, we then turned left onto the logging road and began the not-so-nice bike to Cheakamus Lake parking lot. We hiked from the parking lot and the hike is easy and well maintained, suited for everyone except people in wheelchairs. When we arrived at the lake we took a snack while enjoying the beautiful views of the river head. We then continued past all the campgrounds and continued to the Singing Creek campground, about 7-8kms from the trailhead. We were the first ones there but we wanted something even better, so we crossed the creek by walking on a fallen tree. On the other side is by far the best ones. Three different and considerably private non-maintained campgrounds. I strongly recommend you to hike this far if you're going to spend the night. I do not recommend biking to Cheakamus Lake parking lot. We loaded our bikes on a bus and took the bus back to Whistler, if you're going to bike to the parking lot because you don't own a car, I would suggest taking the buss both ways, as it is uphill for the last 7-8kms, and it gets pretty exhausting with a heavy backpack. If you like to fish you can, with a permit, catch fish in the lake, but you have to catch-and-return in the river, including the river head.
  • I love this place. You have to visit this place. By bike or just by walk... It does not metter. It is amazing

Where to stay in Whistler

Whistler caters to guests with a wide selection of accommodations, although budget travelers might struggle to find more affordable options. If you visit Whistler during the ski season, stay in the southern section of town, closest to the main ski lifts. You can also beat the crowds of the town proper and stay farther south in Whistler Creek, where the shores of Alta Lake meet the Creekside gondola. It's worth booking early no matter what time of year you visit, as the town can get incredibly busy even during summer.
