Was unsure of doing the hike especially in 1 day but if you are in shape totally manageable. Started 945am and finished before 5. We stopped for many pictures and a picnic along the way as well. The c... more »

Done in 1 day, with 4 breaks, and a detour to the Garibaldi Lake. 10 first Kms are ok, but the end is very tricky, especially when it's cloudy and cold. Lot of snow even in late July, so get ready. Yo... more »

This jagged pinnacle of volcanic rock in Garibaldi Provincial Park stands at 2319 m (7608 ft) above sea level and is one of the most iconic peaks visible from the Sea-to-Sky Highway between Vancouver and Whistler. It is a moderate hike which gets somewhat difficult near the end, but you are rewarded with incredible views of the surrounding alpine areas and getting to the very top was exhilarating. If you want to make it to the top, make sure you have a helmet or be prepared to deftly dodge falling rocks. The chimney isn't difficult to climb (it's only a couple of short 7 to 8 feet scrambles) but the rocks can be loose so be careful. Once you get past the chimney it's pretty straight forward. A must do!

The best hike so far. The last part is a little bit challenging, especially if you afraid of heights. But even if you decide not to scramble last part, you will still have chance to enjoy gorgeous view on Garibaldi lake and mountains.

Black Tusk is one of the iconic mountains in Garibaldi Provincial Park. It is an amazing hike with great views. It is popular as a hiking destination and the trail can be fairly crowded at times, particularly on weekends. It is definitely doable as a day hike or trail run but involves significant climbing/elevation gain.

The final ascent to The Black Tusk was spectacular but cold. It was really hard to keep your footing in the loose volcanic rock. The early September weather changed every 5-10 mins from blustery winter to calm and comfortable. We really wanted to go the final step to the pinnacle of Black Tusk but the weather really picked up and we were not sure how long it would take to get to the top and back to the cinder cone where we finished. We wanted to make sure we were back to Rubble Creek before sundown. Another group of guys that were on a climbing expedition to various mountains went for it and told us near the end of the day when they passed us that it was only about another hour round trip. Apparently, on the other side of the Tusk there was no wind. Wish we knew that! The rock formations and the view of where the 9 km lava flow traveled 1.3 million years ago were the most amazing I have ever seen. The altitude we got to was about 7500 ft / 2300 m. All in all it was an incredibly beautiful experience that I will never forget.
-
Amazing hike. 30km round trip Plus big elevation gain. Drinking water out of creeks is all you have access to. Come prepared. Enjoy the views if you have time. If you plan on climbing the chimney, bring the proper gear.
