The Bottle Houses, Wellington

(170+ reviews on the web)
Landmark Tourist Spot
A village-like set of ingenious structures, The Bottle Houses use recycled glass bottles and mortar to create unusual pieces of full-scale buildings. Architect Édouard Arsenault dreamed up three fanciful "houses": a gabled house, a tavern, and a chapel. The elaborate, intricately manicured gardens make the perfect setting to admire Arsenault's work. Take a camera along to capture this idiosyncratic attraction, and survey the small pond to see some resident koi fish. • I found the bottle houses to be extremely neat and interesting. We didn't stay too long as it doesn't take very long to tour all 3 houses but I think it was well worth the extra drive to see this gem!...  more »

  • The garden is so nice and the lights in the bottle houses are great. But take bug spray in the summer!
  • In my humble opinion, I don't think it was worth an entry ticket. Not $7 per person at-least. Donations only would be better for what we saw. Very small...You wouldn't walk more than 100 meters. Just 3 houses made of old bottles, 1 miniature lighthouse. I wouldn't make a special trip just to see this. If you are passing by anyhow, and don't mind spending to explore whatever's there, might wanna stop by. But to travel several hours just to see this might be a disappointment.
  • A tourist attraction must visit. Creative and amazing three houses made of bottles and a garden with beautiful plants .
  • Nice place to visit but a little far from other touristic places
  • It's worth the small entry fee to see the clever use of various sizes, colours and types of bottles. I must have been a painstaking task to collect, clean and sort them all before turning them into buildings and statues. I'm glad we stopped in.
