British Columbia Legislature, Victoria

Visit the grandiose structure of British Columbia Legislature, the site of the province's government since 1864. Here you can take a free guided tour, learning about the building's history, architecture, and parliamentary processes. Visitors also have the chance to observe the debates that go on here; check the calendar to see what's happening during your planned visit. You can enjoy a meal in the onsite restaurant here, but check whether it's open in advance, as its working hours depend on what legislative meetings are happening on the day. Went on a guided tour, too many people.Better to do a self guided tour at your own pace. The outside of the building was really nice and if you go to the back of the building away from the tourists it...  more »

Huge pretty austere building opened on a large public park. It is interesting to see him at night when it is illuminated.

Worth a look. Spent about 1/2 hour here self guided. There were guided tours available but not starting at the time we arrived - caught the end of one which seemed interesting. Loved the current exhibition of their history of women in politics, surprisingly moving & some very inspiring facts there - would love to have seen more in depth information.

Very nice place, when I went there weren't any guided tours being offered at the time. Toured inside of the Legislature with my family and other relatives, it is rich in cultural history. You can even look into the Legislative Assembly, if you are lucky. Plenty of historical artifacts from British Columbia's history inside. As an added bonus, the self-guided tour is free of charge. (cannot remember exactly, but I think it was)

'THE' place to be if you come to the capital city of Beautiful British Columbia ☺. The Legislature is in the heart of the inner harbor. Wheelchair accessible. Guided tours. Great photo opportunities.

In the front of the legislative buildings stands this huge Sequoia tree which stands 30 meters or 100 ft tall. Planted in the 1800. Commonly referred to a Coastal Redwood, the tree grows an average of 1 foot per year. The tree is statement that Victoria is in a rain forest country.

Where to stay in Victoria

The curling waterfront Wharf Street, which becomes Store Street, offers the best selection of lodgings in the city center, although you can expect to pay extra for the trademark views. Many travelers opt to stay in the neighborhood of James Bay, where Belleville Street and surrounds provide comfortable and even luxurious options. For something more relaxed and closer to nature, look south to the expansive Beacon Hill Park.
