Nitobe Memorial Garden, Vancouver

4.5
#15 of 32 in Parks in Vancouver
Built to memorialize Japanese author Nitobe Inazo, Nitobe Memorial Garden serves as a peaceful break from the hustle and bustle of Vancouver, while giving a glimpse into Japanese culture. Walk through the 1 ha (2.5 acre) ground to observe the layout of the plants, pond, and structures. The plants mesh with the large native trees that surround the garden by starting tall and gradually shrinking in height as you move towards the center. After observing the garden, head into the tea house for some authentic tea and a chance to observe a tea ceremony. • Nature at it's finest with lots of cool gardens and just spectacular to see. I happened to come on this as I was heading to the Museum of Anthropology.  more »
  • When you visit a window in the spring time cherry cannot be more pretty. Admission is on the expensive side, but I went twice. In the city's free, and you can feel the baby Japanese garden.

  • Used to come here a lot as student and still visit occasionally. The garden is always in superb condition; clean, quiet, and serene. Visitors are very respectful. This garden is gorgeous all year. There is also a parking structure right in front of it.
  • I've visited Japan, but still: this Japanese garden is beautiful. Came here during Fall season, the colors were wonderful.
  • This place is located (North End)within walking distance from Beaty Biodiversity Museum and the Museum of Anthropology on the grounds of the University of British Columbia it's so beautifully manicured and very photogenic a great place to relax or just to take a stroll
  • Cute, small, Japanese garden conveniently located on campus near the Museum of Anthropology. The water wasn't too clear, so it was hard to see the koi, but we did see a type of heron (see photos), and the tea house was very charming. Great place to study in tranquility!
  • Incredibly pretty and offers a kind of peaceful tranquility. It's definitely worthwhile visiting if you're a UBC student or in the immediate vincinity. The garden is small, but it is a small respite from the broader, nosier community.
