Nitobe Memorial Garden, Vancouver

4.5
#15 of 32 in Parks in Vancouver
Built to memorialize Japanese author Nitobe Inazo, Nitobe Memorial Garden serves as a peaceful break from the hustle and bustle of Vancouver, while giving a glimpse into Japanese culture. Walk through the 1 ha (2.5 acre) ground to observe the layout of the plants, pond, and structures. The plants mesh with the large native trees that surround the garden by starting tall and gradually shrinking in height as you move towards the center. After observing the garden, head into the tea house for some authentic tea and a chance to observe a tea ceremony. The garden is very beautiful and a wonderful example of Japanese garden design. It is a long way from the city meaning a $35 taxi or the B99 bus and about 35 mins plus 15 min walk. The garden is good ...  more »

Considered as 1 of the 5 nicest Zen garden in the world, I was stunned by its beauty, serenity. Only 3 or 4 individuals were visiting that afternoon. A must see when you go next door to the MOA.  more »

Beautiful small garden. It's a very serene and relaxing place to be. Spend as much time as you want here whenever stress is getting to you. One of the most authentic Japanese gardens outside of Japan especially compared to UW's Japanese garden.

Really well maintained garden; good to go on a sunny day, and sit. The noise from the road next to it is a downer though, so not the most quiet place.

It's wonderful, just go. Take the time to read a guide and walk the paths with their designed intention. Surreally beautiful.

A truly fantastic traditional Japanese garden, maintained to the highest standard. One of my favourite places to relax and wander while listening to the trickle of the stream.
