Nitobe Memorial Garden, Vancouver

(4.6/5 based on 240 reviews on the web)
Built to memorialize Japanese author Nitobe Inazo, Nitobe Memorial Garden serves as a peaceful break from the hustle and bustle of Vancouver, while giving a glimpse into Japanese culture. Walk through the 1 ha (2.5 acre) ground to observe the layout of the plants, pond, and structures. The plants mesh with the large native trees that surround the garden by starting tall and gradually shrinking in height as you move towards the center. After observing the garden, head into the tea house for some authentic tea and a chance to observe a tea ceremony. See Nitobe Memorial Garden and all Vancouver has to offer by arranging your trip with our Vancouver itinerary maker.

  • A gentle walk, peaceful, serene and close to UBC and the museum of anthropology so you can do a few things in one afternoon. Nice in summer and chilly in winter.
  • It's a peaceful and relaxing place, but it is really little and apart from few japanese sculptures and small bridges it seemed to me a normal garden.
  • This garden is located on the UBC campus and is a wonderful place to spend some time in reflection. It is beautiful in the sunshine, but maybe even better in the gray, drizzly days. A great respite fr...  more »

  • Nice quiete garden for a walk and to descover the japanese art of gardening.
  • A beautiful gem inside kelowna. Very peaceful and tranquil. There was a fantastic tour and they even fed they koi so they'd come to the top for us. Very friendly staff. Well maintained landscaping. Nice little gift shop,
  • The most beautiful Japanese garden I've ever seen. Relatively small but beautifully designed and very well maintained. It provides a sense of great serenity, accentuated by massive cedar trees, reminding the viewer that they are in the Pacific Northwest.
  • Beautiful, peaceful, and well maintained. Try and get there before the crowds as it can get busy during tourist season.
  • A nice place to go and take a relaxing stroll. Lots of areas to sit and enjoy the scenery as well!
