Nitobe Memorial Garden, Vancouver

4.5
#15 of 32 in Parks in Vancouver
Built to memorialize Japanese author Nitobe Inazo, Nitobe Memorial Garden serves as a peaceful break from the hustle and bustle of Vancouver, while giving a glimpse into Japanese culture. Walk through the 1 ha (2.5 acre) ground to observe the layout of the plants, pond, and structures. The plants mesh with the large native trees that surround the garden by starting tall and gradually shrinking in height as you move towards the center. After observing the garden, head into the tea house for some authentic tea and a chance to observe a tea ceremony. • Located in the heart of the UBC this little Japanese garden is beautifully maintained! A pain relief we just invaded the outdated entry. Fullness and quiet reign inside. Students to relax between 2 courses, while visitors stroll peacefully. A must see!

  • Having been to Japan earlier this year, we were very happy to see another Japanese garden and were not disappointed. It was very well kept, peaceful, well worth a visit.  more »

  • Beautiful small garden. It's a very serene and relaxing place to be. Spend as much time as you want here whenever stress is getting to you. One of the most authentic Japanese gardens outside of Japan especially compared to UW's Japanese garden.
  • Beautiful garden. Also has a few Gazebos where are with a tranquil atmosphere.
  • Really well maintained garden; good to go on a sunny day, and sit. The noise from the road next to it is a downer though, so not the most quiet place.
  • It's wonderful, just go. Take the time to read a guide and walk the paths with their designed intention. Surreally beautiful.
  • A truly fantastic traditional Japanese garden, maintained to the highest standard. One of my favourite places to relax and wander while listening to the trickle of the stream.
