Prime Berth Fishing Museum, Twillingate

(4.5/5 based on 190+ reviews on the web)
A welcoming, quirky sight as your cross the causeway into the historic Twillingate Islands, Prime Berth Fishing Museum was set up to honor the founders' fishing forefathers, and provide a one of a kind authentic experience for visitors in this enchanting corner of Newfoundland. A labor of love for David Boyd and his wife, the fishery and heritage center unearth a wealth of fishing and maritime history across seven rustic buildings, including a unique craft studio and the only fully constructed sei whale skeleton in Canada. For the full Newfoundland experience, take to the open sea with the founder himself, and enjoy a hands on tour of the local area, see spectacular icebergs and try your hand at reeling in your very own catch of the day. • We ummed and arrred about doing this self guided tour of the museum. However, I'm so glad we did it. It was only $5.00 and it really is quite fascinating. We expected to be through it in about 20 mins as we had a long drive ahead but we ended up spending 45 mins there. Well worth the money!
  • Lots of stuff for the kids and the underwater camera is fun
