#3 of 17 in Things to do in Twillingate
A welcoming, quirky sight as your cross the causeway into the historic Twillingate Islands, Prime Berth Fishing Museum was set up to honor the founders' fishing forefathers, and provide a one of a kind authentic experience for visitors in this enchanting corner of Newfoundland. A labor of love for David Boyd and his wife, the fishery and heritage center unearth a wealth of fishing and maritime history across seven rustic buildings, including a unique craft studio and the only fully constructed sei whale skeleton in Canada. For the full Newfoundland experience, take to the open sea with the founder himself, and enjoy a hands on tour of the local area, see spectacular icebergs and try your hand at reeling in your very own catch of the day. We ummed and arrred about doing this self guided tour of the museum. However, I'm so glad we did it. It was only $5.00 and it really is quite fascinating. We expected to be through it in about 20 mins as we had a long drive ahead but we ended up spending 45 mins there. Well worth the money!
