History Museum Museum
A welcoming, quirky sight as your cross the causeway into the historic Twillingate Islands, Prime Berth Fishing Museum was set up to honor the founders' fishing forefathers, and provide a one of a kind authentic experience for visitors in this enchanting corner of Newfoundland. A labor of love for David Boyd and his wife, the fishery and heritage center unearth a wealth of fishing and maritime history across seven rustic buildings, including a unique craft studio and the only fully constructed sei whale skeleton in Canada. For the full Newfoundland experience, take to the open sea with the founder himself, and enjoy a hands on tour of the local area, see spectacular icebergs and try your hand at reeling in your very own catch of the day. See Prime Berth Fishing Museum and all Twillingate has to offer by arranging your trip with our Twillingate vacation trip planner.

  • I had a great time at the museum. Lots of local history there tells a lot of fishing history and how people in Newfoundland relied so much on the fishing industry.  more »
  • A fun walk through the self guided tour. A very neat collection of a fishing history. The whale story was pretty cool.  more »
  • Captain Dave gave us a memorable experience seeing icebergs and navigating through the ice pack. Great local stories from a native born and bred. Far better than the big boat tours  more »

  • Fantastic experience.learned lots and lots about nfld.highly recommend.
  • We ummed and arrred about doing this self guided tour of the museum. However, I'm so glad we did it. It was only $5.00 and it really is quite fascinating. We expected to be through it in about 20 mins as we had a long drive ahead but we ended up spending 45 mins there. Well worth the money!
  • Probably my best experience in NL!
  • Lots of stuff for the kids and the underwater camera is fun
