Our Lady of the Cape Shrine attracts visitors with its architectural and historical significance. The shrine is the largest Marian shrine in Canada and the country's national shrine to the Blessed Mother. The very first church was built in 1659; it was later replaced by a smaller wooden church in 1720 which stands today as the oldest church in Canada in which mass is celebrated daily. The grand basilica, with its colorful stained-glass windows, was erected in 1955. The basilica features a 38 m (125 ft) tall dome. Tour the structure, the gift shop, and restaurant just a stone's throw from the St. Lawrence River.
