The Grotto, Tobermory
(4.6/5 based on 700+ reviews on the web)
Gaze upon the turquoise waters of The Grotto, a secluded sea cave carved out of the rocky cliffs over thousands of years. A short hike is required to reach the grotto--those with a fear of heights should take caution, as you'll need to climb down a 12 m (40 ft) natural rock chimney to access it. From above, enjoy the views of the rocky cliffs and the ocean beyond, while sunlight from outside reveals a brilliant underwater tunnel. You can snorkel in the pristine setting, and use the opportunity to capture some brilliant photographs. The Grotto is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our custom trip planner, Tobermory Edition.

  • Beautiful water and fascinating cliffs. Pretty crowded but well worth the hike to experience it. Lots of people swimming.
  • We've spent a lifetime climbing the rocks, shorelines and walkways of this infamous spot. It never fails to take your breath away and steal your heart.
  • Had this on the list since visiting Collingwood. It did not disappoint. A bit of a drive to get to and maybe the off-season is the time to visit due to crowds. The Grotto was an easy hike from the clo...  more »

  • Best place I ever been. Be little careful about snakes.
  • This might be the nicest location in all of Canada, Generally just the -40 Water would be better if it had a local Pool heating company heat up Georgian Bay. Otherwise Ill never go back in Fear of freezing my little buds once again!
  • Beautiful place with spectacular caves and rock formations. Be prepared for some hiking to get to and explore the place. The water is crystal clear but freezing cold I could only dip my feet for a few seconds. That said, there were a few brave souls jumping into the water from a cliff. Expect a swarm of flies that give a stinging bite and for which insect repellents do not work. The only way to not get bitten is to cover up.
  • Loved it, it was cool you could squeeze in the little cave and come out the other side :)
  • Absolutely stunning location. One one side beautiful rock shelf beach and a careful climb down on the other side and there is a very beautiful cave with swimming hole.
