Thunder Oak Cheese Farm, Thunder Bay

4.5
#1 of 9 in Outdoors in Thunder Bay
Sample the best Gouda that Ontario has to offer at Thunder Oak Cheese Farm, a favorite of cheese-lovers around the country and beyond. This cheese farm dates back to 1995, when the Schep family opened with the express purpose of making the Dutch yellow cheese with fresh milk from their own cows and no added preservatives. Stop by the onsite cafe for a hot drink and to sample a delightful array of their products. The farm also stocks a number of Dutch imports of Gouda; buy a selection to take home. • Great selection of gouda cheese made on site and so delicious and creamy! Tons of variety nettle, roasted red pepper, garlic, and many others. Definitely worth the short drive out to their farm also good for kids as they can see how cheese is made. Check it out
  • The cheese is fantastic. Especially the one with nettles in it. I didn't know you were supposed to eat nettles, but now I know theyre delicious.
  • Buy local! Great treats straight from Holland! Baked goods available are fantastic.
  • I had heard that they had good cheese and had checked out their flyer that told of the cheese they make. Gouda is one of my favourites, and I came home with lots of it. It is located in a beautiful area of Ontario and worth the drive to see and enjoy the food they have.
  • fantastic local cheese and very helpful staff.

Where to stay in Thunder Bay

The city center doesn't offer much in the way of accommodations, with the relatively industrial surrounds featuring little to interest tourists. Most visitors stay north of the center along the waterfront, where Water Street and Cumberland Street offer the biggest range of motels and inns. Here, you'll have views over the city's marina and port, giving you a sense of the region's maritime culture. Arthur Street West, which sits at the entrance to the airport, offers a range of motels and chain hotels perfect for visitors just passing through the city.
