Runner Terry Fox began his run across Canada in April 1980, and ended his journey in Thunder Bay when it became too painful to continue. Head up to the monument and enjoy the sweeping view of the surrounding city and bay. Admire the 2.7 m (9 ft) bronze statue, set upon a massive granite base, and its depiction of Terry Fox in the final steps of his marathon. • Terry Fox is a Canadian icon, certainly worthy of such a tribute. The monument is well worth seeing, and situated with a wonderful view of Sleeping Giant.
