Sault Ste. Marie

3.9
History Museums · Piers & Boardwalks · Landmarks
Near the U.S./Canada border, Sault Ste. Marie serves as the gateway for exploring northwestern Ontario. In an area boasting scenic lakeshores, pristine forests, and meandering rivers, holidays in Sault Ste. Marie appeal to visitors interested in immersing themselves into Canada's unspoiled outdoors. An important stopping place for travelers since the earliest colonial days, the city offers enough tourist-oriented services to ensure a pleasant stay throughout the year. Although it lacks cultural and historical attractions of the country's bigger cities, Sault Ste. Marie remains a logical resting point for those on a trans-Canadian trip. In the build up to your vacation in Sault Ste. Marie, plan trip itinerary minutiae using the visitor reviews, staff write-ups, and custom search fields on our Canada attractions planning site.

Where to stay in Sault Ste. Marie

Like most smaller border cities between Canada and the USA, Sault Ste. Marie caters primarily to visitors in transit. The town's accommodations work mostly for one-night stays, with a selection of budget and mid-range motels and motor inns along Queen Street East, just shy of the border. A similar selection of basic accommodations lines Great Northern Road--the main artery out of town to the north--and Trunk Road, which heads northeast.
