Exporail, the Canadian Railway Museum, Saint-Constant

(4.7/5 based on 200+ reviews on the web)
Learn the history of Canada's railways at Exporail, the Canadian Railway Museum. Founded in 1961, the country's largest railway museum was built close to Canada's first railway, which began operation in 1836. Retrace these beginnings and examine artifacts and locomotives in permanent, temporary, and virtual exhibits that weave together the story of the railway. Hop on the heritage streetcar line or railway and take a trip around the museum grounds, then head to the cafe for a bite to eat. Youngsters can explore the renovated 1913 Pacific Railway baggage car, now transformed into an interactive learning space for three to seven year olds. • Exhibitions very interesting, well made, where one learns a lot pleasantly. We enjoyed our time much more than what we expected. We will return in summer to experience outdoor activities. To close all, excellent customer service.

  • We heard about this place through montrealfamilies.ca and also because Thomas the Train comes here in May. We were lucky that there weren't that many people on our visit today, probably because it's s...  more »
  • This is an AMAZING museum. Having lived all my life in Montreal, I am somewhat embarrassed to admit that I went to the museum 2 weeks ago for the first time. I would recommend this visit to anyone - w...  more »

  • Great place for ALL AGES! If you love trains this is a MUST! Even if you don't, this place is a great place to get away for a few hours. There's lots of walking to do since these are very large trains or if you like you can get around by train! We come back every year with our kids. This museum is well-maintained and only 20 minutes from downtown Montreal.
  • What an amazing experience for train enthusiasts and friends of transit in general. The trainyard is awesome, but the main feature is a huge indoor collection of trains and cars with informative signage, and period staging of the cars you are allowed to go into! My favourite is the mail car.
  • Good family outing. Yearly pass really worth the price. Staff is pleasant and well organized.
  • Was a great experience, lots of stuff to look at, great ambiance. We even caught a ghost on cam in the grey caboose ;) or at least something that looks like it!
  • Quality family time guaranteed! You need the whole day to see everything there. Family pass (2 adults + 2 children) is about $50.oo
