Specialty Museum Museum
Learn the history of Canada's railways at Canadian Railway Museum. Founded in 1961, the country's largest railway museum was built close to Canada's first railway, which began operation in 1836. Retrace these beginnings and examine artifacts and locomotives in permanent, temporary, and virtual exhibits that weave together the story of the railway. Hop on the heritage streetcar line or railway and take a trip around the museum grounds, then head to the cafe for a bite to eat. Youngsters can explore the renovated 1913 Pacific Railway baggage car, now transformed into an interactive learning space for three to seven year olds. • Great place for children. My son loved that you can go inside some of the locomotives and coaches that have been restored. Each train has a history and it makes the visit really interesting. They also have a working tramway car that travels around the site. Children and adults alike enjoy that part. Plan at least 4 hours to visit the museum. Bring a lunch. If the weather is nice you can eat outside on some picnic tables. Otherwise you can eat inside in the cafeteria. And make sure to bring your camera!
  • Great place to spend a couple of hours. They have around 40 locomotives and passenger cars (on some you can go inside and explore) in the main building and another 20 in another building. Also a couple of areas for kids and a mini train ride. You can take an outside tour in an old streetcar and they have some movies you can watch. Small lunch area and a great gift shop. Definitely a must see for railway enthusiasts! :)
  • Hop on a train from Downtown Montreal. Great family fun - a train trip to a train museum. WOW! Attracting locals and tourists alike. Come "trip" at the "Canadian Train Museum!"
  • Very nice place.. lots of history included..plus a cute ride on a miniature train..
  • Best place to take the kids to have fun and learn about the magic of trains!
