  • We would have visited anyway but it was a pleasure to have an inside attraction (for the most part) when the smoke outside was so unpleasant. This small museum is an absolute treasure. It is so well p...  more »
  • A lot of history with a passenger carriage what a good impression how people used to the Rockies. A well-preserved steam locomotive is next to it. For the kids there is a locomotive simulator that for a 2 dollar coin works. Stand outside next to a large dieselloc two tremendous snow sliders. The building is clearly visible and is located on the edge of the cozy town of Revelstoke. There are regular long freight trains pass daily.

  • Great museum with lots of railway history related to this side of the world, nice to compare with our own knowledge of UK railroad history. Quite understated considering Revelstoke is as it is because...  more »

  • Great place to visit with a family. Have some interesting displays and trains. Enough displays and info to be interesting, mostly focusing on the completion of the railway in the West. Kids loved the train simulator (it's an additional $2).
  • Awesome museum. Very interesting history of the CPR (how it was built, coping with extreme weather, etc.), model trains and real trains. There is also a movie about Revelstoke and the railway mid last century.
  • Decent railway museum. Worth a visit if you like trains, or want to learn about local history. Revelstoke is a railroad town.
  • 'Must visit' for a railway fun! Reserve the whole day for it, it has a lot to see.
  • I did not expect to be so entertained by trains. We came here to give my two young sons a break on the long drive between Calgary and Vancouver. It was so much fun for them to run around, climbing in and out of the trains. Two trains are indoors, quite a few more outside. There is an excellent play area for kids with puzzles, games, dress up, coloring sheets, and a wooden train table. The signs are informative, telling interesting and emotional stories about the men who worked on the railroads. The staff are friendly and welcoming.

Where to stay in Revelstoke

Revelstoke's position on the Columbia River endows it with scenic vistas, and most of the accommodations in town take advantage of this by offering waterfront views. Stay at one of the many bed and breakfasts, inns, hotels, or lodges on the east side of the river to make the most of the scenery. If you visit Revelstoke to ski--between November and April--stay south of the town center, in a ski chalet at the foot of Revelstoke Mountain. There, you'll be perfectly placed to catch a gondola up the mountain and shred down its slopes.
