Parc de la Chute-Montmorency, Quebec City

4.5
#1 of 73 in Nature in Quebec
Look down over Quebec's highest cascade from atop a suspension bridge at Parc de la Chute-Montmorency. Plunging from a height of 83 m (272 ft), the falls stand 30 m (98 ft) taller than the more famous Niagara Falls. During the colder months, the falls feature a cone of ice known as the Sugar Loaf at their base. Ride a zipline or walk along a clifftop trail in the surrounding park; feel free to bring food with you for a picnic. For travelers who use our custom trip planner, Quebec City holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Parc de la Chute-Montmorency and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • We would love to go back in the summer. The falls are lovely, but the bridge across it was closed as was the restaurant that sits right beside the falls. Despite all that, seeing the ice and hear the ...  more »

  • This place is awesome to visit in the summer and winter. Seeing the fall drop 83m is a spectical. Currently in the winter the stairs are closed and the restaurant at the top of the cable car is closed...  more »

  • My wife and I visited on a hot late summer day. It's easy to just drive up and park the car. The views of the fall and the surrounding area are very impressive - totally worth the drive. First take in the views from the bridge over the falls first, then take the hike down to the bottom of the falls. And then the gruesome hike back up - there's about 20 stories worth of wooden stairs, with plenty of locals using it as their actual workout. The views of the river are wonderful.
  • We had a very good time here despite the icy weather on the day we picked to go. The walkway towards the falls had beautiful views the whole way, and the bridge over the falls lets you hear the water right beneath your feet and even feel the slight rumble. We heard about the paid parking but nobody was there to collect, so we just parked and didn't have any problems. Definitely worth visiting!
  • We where in Quebec city for a short time. I was alone with my 12 years old son who was complaining his sister's where the ones always having all the fun. So I brought him here. We had a blast. The stairs are a good climb with rest areas all along. On top They have a zipline, play structure for the kids, the suspended bridge. It's Quebec city so you'll also be surrounded by Asian people taking pictures.
  • Worth a visit during a trip to Quebec City. Parking at the mansion on the hill was $11 but gave easy access to the bridge across the falls. There's a zip line across the falls, too, that you buy tickets for in the mansion. We walked down the wooden stairway to the base.of the falls and rode the gondola back to the mansion and our car. The whole circuit is probably a mile.
  • Beautiful waterfalls just a short drive from the city center. Worth checking out any time of year.

Where to stay in Quebec City

Most accommodations cluster on the west side of the St. Lawrence River, with the city's split-level old town offering the widest range of options and best access to top attractions. Stay in the upper town to be close to the castle and enjoy views over the river. What the lower town lacks in panoramas, it makes up for in historic charm and access to riverside cafes and restaurants. If you want a less-touristy experience, consider the up-and-coming neighborhood of St. Roch, whose cafes, bars, restaurants, and artistic spaces make it an alternative traveler's paradise.
