Montmorency Falls Park (Parc de la Chute-Montmorency), Quebec City

4.5
#1 of 28 in Parks in Quebec City
Look down over Quebec's highest cascade from atop a suspension bridge at Montmorency Falls Park (Parc de la Chute-Montmorency). Plunging from a height of 83 m (272 ft), the falls stand 30 m (98 ft) taller than the more famous Niagara Falls. During the colder months, the falls feature a cone of ice known as the Sugar Loaf at their base. Ride a zipline or walk along a clifftop trail in the surrounding park; feel free to bring food with you for a picnic. For travelers who use our custom trip planner, Quebec City holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Montmorency Falls Park (Parc de la Chute-Montmorency) and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

This is a great place to visit if you are in a hurry and want to do something outside Old Quebec City. The restaurant is very good and there is a lot to do here, even zip lining! If you rented a car, ...  more »

Biked here and had a blast with family. The views are amazing and there's an ice cream shop at the top with friendly staff. We took the stairs up and rode the lift down to experience different views.

Breathtaking and thrilling! We went after hours, so we didn't pay to park. We walked along the pathway right up to the falls. We got soaked, but it was worth it. We then drove up to the upper level and it was amazing too, not as thrilling as the lower level, but you have to do both. An amazing thing to do for all ages!

Spectacular! Did not climb up the stairs but rode the Gondola up. The walk in the park was relaxing too although some tourists are obnoxious/pushy for the most part a delightful half day.

A quick bus tour stop at the falls so unfortunately I didn't have time to go up to the lookout points or make use of the cable car. Lovely place though.

The tallest waterfall in Canada! The view from the bottom is spectacular but from the top is still better. Pay attention to the second (or third) lookout. It has food for birds. Just wait a little and watch they come to feed. Keep your camera ready because they are fast. Make sure to cross the top bridge and explore everything there. There are so many beautiful views. And don't just stare at the falls. Check the bridge over the river and the city of Quebec too.

Where to stay in Quebec City

Most accommodations cluster on the west side of the St. Lawrence River, with the city's split-level old town offering the widest range of options and best access to top attractions. Stay in the upper town to be close to the castle and enjoy views over the river. What the lower town lacks in panoramas, it makes up for in historic charm and access to riverside cafes and restaurants. If you want a less-touristy experience, consider the up-and-coming neighborhood of St. Roch, whose cafes, bars, restaurants, and artistic spaces make it an alternative traveler's paradise.
