Grande Allee, Quebec City

4.5
Once the preferred hot spot for elite classes in the 19th century, today Grande Allee remains one of the city's most popular streets. While renowned for its fine dining and striking architecture, the street actually offers something for everyone. Eateries range from affordable to upper-end, and after dark the area buzzes with drinking and dancing in its nightclubs and bars. By day, check out the nearby urban park just off the street. We stayed just around the corner at Manoir d'Auteuil, and so the Grande Allee was only a short stroll away. This street, which begins just outside the old city wall, is whee just about everything havi...  more »

Where to stay in Quebec City

Most accommodations cluster on the west side of the St. Lawrence River, with the city's split-level old town offering the widest range of options and best access to top attractions. Stay in the upper town to be close to the castle and enjoy views over the river. What the lower town lacks in panoramas, it makes up for in historic charm and access to riverside cafes and restaurants. If you want a less-touristy experience, consider the up-and-coming neighborhood of St. Roch, whose cafes, bars, restaurants, and artistic spaces make it an alternative traveler's paradise.
