Cathedral Grove, Port Alberni

Marvel at towering trees and lush foliage at Cathedral Grove, a living remnant of the island's ancient forests. Pay a visit to this section of MacMillan Provincial Park to see colossal Douglas-fir trees, the largest of which stand at a height of more than 75 m (250 ft) and feature a circumference of 9 m (29 ft). Wander along the network of walking trails that crisscross the area and admire these old-growth evergreens, some of which are nearly eight centuries old. Keep an eye out for falling branches and animals, such as bears, elk, cougar, and owls. Two great short trails per 1km directly from the road to Port Alberni/Tofino based. Beautiful rain forest with great trees. 7/4 our children liked it, they could climb up tree trunks and hide in hollow tree trunks.

The island has ever been full of them, forest giants! Here are a few where you you can Marvel. Parking is just be patient, but it runs on rapidly by. The walk along these giants is short and a nicely laid out path. There are information boards and there are even toilets. Just do as you're in the area, you'll not regret it.

There are no hours for this visit; all you need is to park the car and walk around. I went at the end of the day (7pm June and it was nearly empty and had the park to myself pretty much). I suppose like every other park they close it from 11 pm to dawn. The trail is super well marked but do look where you are walking since you can easily trip on the roots of the trees. This was an amazing experience and is it definitely worth the stop!! This reminded me of the sequoias I've seen in California, mixed with the rainforest trail in Olympic park in Washington. Truly amazing!!! I loved all the signage and was able to experience the trail better. Seems like the north trail could have more signs...

Easy walking paths for kids, beautiful scenery, amazing atmosphere! Would highly recommend the stop if you are in the area. Doesn't take long (45 min or so) to walk around both areas off the highway.

Very easy walking trails. An abundance of descriptive plaques describing the history of this majestic forest. Parking can be very difficult during the peak season but it is well worth the wait.

It was fun walking among giants. They are preserving this well and is something that will be enjoyed by people for many years to come.

Enjoy the two loops through cathedral Grove Provincial Park and see some of the oldest and biggest trees of Canada. Just a nice, short walk for young and old.
