Rideau Centre, Ottawa

3.7
#2 of 21 in Shopping in Ottawa
The recently redeveloped Rideau Centre covers all of your shopping needs under one roof. Originally opened in 1983, the mall, which sees over 20 million visitors annually, stretches over three floors and contains around 170 stores. A revitalization project, which commenced in 2013, has seen the addition of a three-level underground parking garage and a large dining hall, which ranges from fine dining to more casual fare. • It was a nice downtown mall. Lots of decent stores, and it was well maintained and clean. Parking in lots around the area.  more »

  • Pass through almost every day walking to work. The only thing special about it is it is right downtown. There are a couple of stores unique to the place but the whole ongoing reno is just... too much. It's years now.
  • The rideau centre i find very expensive. They have a lot of high end stores. They have renovated the mall and it's very nice. The food court has a lot of options. Its great in the winter or in the rain because you can walk through the mall.
  • Some of the worst food I've eaten anywhere in Canada (or the US). The best of the several eating places served huge kebabs. Dried out meat with tasteless everything else. Apart from chains like Kfc none of the other places looked much better. Avoid.
  • The mall is undergoing a major transformation which makes it both beautiful and impossible to navigate. Couple this with a number of new high end stores, a completely renovated food court and direct transit options, and it should be on anyone's destination list for Ottawa.
  • Food court had a great layout and selection. The maps inside could be a little more helpful. It can show you a store that you can't see. It might need to be updated.

Where to stay in Ottawa

For the best access to restaurants and shops, stay in the historic central neighborhood of ByWard Market, where you can choose from a range of comfortable hotels. Options also abound just south of the canal in Centretown, where you can enjoy easy access to the best attractions in Ottawa. You can explore the city's diverse heritage by staying in one of its many cultural hubs--Chinatown, Little Italy, and Quartier Vanier offer a distinctive taste of China, Italy, and France respectively.
