Home to the world's largest skating rink, Rideau Canal has earned World Heritage Site status as North America's oldest operational canal system. Connecting the cities of Ottawa and Kingston, the waterway stretches just over 200 km (124 mi) and forms two waterfalls at the spot where it empties into the Ottawa River. Popular with boaters during the summer months, in the winter the canal draws thousands of revelers to its 7 km (4.5 mi) rink. Along the skateway, dozens of food kiosks offer warm beverages and freshly prepared beavertails, a tasty fried dough. • This canal cuts through the center of the city, and works with a system of locks. In winter, it freezes and the skaters have fun on it. If you want, you can take a boat trip on it. Well interesting.

  • Really enjoyed this canal boat ride. .Picturesque n the tour guide a young humorous man was well informed n humorous.. Well worth it.
  • Lived near the canal for 6 years. I used to go for a walk early morning/evening every day. My fav place of all times. It is super clean and well maintained. My walk would start from DOD and all the way to Carleton Uni. A super classy & quiet place to have a chat and a sip of coffee with someone. Biking heaven and a great skateway in Winter.
  • One of the best place to enjoy nature. Fresh air, lots of trees, cute animals and birds and very peaceful.
  • My girlfriend and I went here for the day to skate in February. It was very nice as we started from the beginning of the canal, near the Parliament There were nice cabin to change into your skates with good amounts of space to leave your belongings It did get crowded as this was the most popular location to start off The ice conditions got better as we moved out of here If you are not up to coming back to the start by skating, there is a free shuttle that will take you back from Dows lake and a few other spots
  • Great place to walk and enjoy nature. Summer is a gorgeous place to sit, bike, walk or even drive around and see.. also enjoyable in winter as a skating rink. Beautiful spot.
