National War Memorial, Ottawa

(4.6/5 based on 600+ reviews on the web)
Visit National War Memorial, a cenotaph built to remember the sacrifice of Canadian men and women who have fought in times of war, who are fighting now, and who will fight in the future. Depicting uniformed figures passing under a granite arch, the memorial seeks not to glorify war, but to focus on the dutiful response from members of the Canadian armed forces. Officially unveiled in 1939, it was initially dedicated to those who took part in the First World War. The dedications have grown over time to include subsequent wars, with the memorial becoming a timeless symbol of honor, duty, and memory. For travelers who use our custom trip planner, Ottawa holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the National War Memorial and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • This a definitely a monument that is worth checking out if you are visiting the city of Ottawa. The structure is breathtaking and in the evening is beautifully lit to show the different characters that make up the artwork. Lots of Christmas lights are hung in the surrounding trees during the holidays that make for a great atmosphere.
  • currently under construction of some kind which really sucks when you want to bring visitors around. I hope it is open for Remembrance day, that is a big attraction.
  • Worth seeing. Lest we forget
  • Didn't know what to expect. Easily need the day to go through or go back again to take it all in. Excellent museum.
  • Little square in the centre of Ottawa with a memorial statue. It is a good place to start to discover downtown.
