Categories: Wildlife Areas, Nature & Parks
Inspirock Rating:
4.4/5 based on 220 reviews on the web
Established in 1889, Arboretum (Experimental Farm) offers a lush getaway from the city and allows you to get lost among old, grand trees. Pathways meander through the green lawns and ponds, largely shaded by magnolias and crabapples. Try to identify shrubs like wisteria, rhododendron, and azalea as you stroll. When the park first developed, about 200 trees and shrubs were planted as a test to see which varieties would withstand the humid summers and frigid winters. Although many did not survive, you may be surprised to find species not native to the area still thriving.
