Located nearby Canada’s Highway 3, Spotted Lake invites you to experience the unusual sight of vibrantly colored spots atop a body of water. Framed by hills, most of the lake’s water evaporates during the summer and reveals colorful mineral deposits on its bed. It contains a rich concentration of various minerals, including magnesium sulfate, calcium, and sodium sulphates. The large spots, which are found when water is present, are colored in accordance with the mineral composition below.   • Too bad for us the lake was completely frozen over. We could see about three tan colored spots on the lake but that was it. Otherwise it was totally white. 
  • It was worth the stop to look at the Spotted Lake. It was very interesting and worth taking photos. You can't go down to the lake, but this is understandable when you read the sign. 
  • Got chance to see this lake finally. It was really amazing and the formation of small ponds within the lake because of minerals and salts, is very interesting too. It is not open to the public access,...  more »
