#3 of 8 in Parks in Osoyoos
Located nearby Canada’s Highway 3, Spotted Lake invites you to experience the unusual sight of vibrantly colored spots atop a body of water. Framed by hills, most of the lake’s water evaporates during the summer and reveals colorful mineral deposits on its bed. It contains a rich concentration of various minerals, including magnesium sulfate, calcium, and sodium sulphates. The large spots, which are found when water is present, are colored in accordance with the mineral composition below. To visit Spotted Lake on your trip to Osoyoos, use our Osoyoos vacation planner.

  • We had guests from Australia and hoped to show them Spotted Lake at her finest. We'd had a couple of days of solid rain so the lake was water-filled. That said, we could see large rings and that was s...  more »
  • Just pulled off the road to see this lake. Quite interesting looking. Not really any place to park just a pull over.  more »
  • If you want to see something weird, you will be served; you will be in one of the hot spots of the Canada and the surroundings are also beautiful.

  • Admittedly it looks cool but since they're revamping the area, you're not allowed to go in. Watch out for the bees and snakes eh.
  • You'll see from my picture that a number of people appear in them. I was there as a part of a guided tour, part of the Meadowlark Festival. Our guide was a member of the Osoyoos Indian Band. Please respect their desire to maintain this location, and observe their rules for entry. When I was here earlier this spring, the lake was full of water. It had been an unusually wet few months, so this much water wasn't a surprise. When it's been dry for a certain period of time, the water level is lower and exposes the classic numerous round pools in the white clay and deserves the Spotted Lake name then.
  • This lake is about 15 min before the town of Osoyoos along Hwy 3 heading East. There is no access to the Lake but a gravel platform right off the road where you can pull over and take a few pictures. It can get pretty crowded depending on the time of the day and the traffic since almost everyone seems to stop there to take a look at it. There wasn't much explanation as to how the lake came about to be the way it is but its a neat experience to see something like this. 5-10 min recommended to stop and take a few pictures.
  • Super interesting lake, well worth stopping to look at. You can only view it from the road, as it is a sacred site to the First Nations people and it is on private property. It's a saline endorheic alkali lake richly concentrated with dense deposits of magnesium sulfate, calcium, sodium sulphates, silver, titanium and other minerals. Apparently there are 365-400 circles and in the summer, when the water evaporates the circles turned different colors, depending on what minalerals are concentrated in that particular area...
  • There are long fences hard to reach closely but really unique
