4.4/5 based on 180 reviews on the web
Frozen in time since 1869, Niagara Apothecary Museum remains one of the few examples of a late nineteenth century apothecary. Authentically maintained in working condition, the establishment opened in 1820 and operated until 1964, declared a national historic site of Canada four years later. Inhabiting a single storey unit, it's Georgian facade, black walnut and butternut fixtures, and crystal gasoliers have all been painstakingly restored to accurately portray the era. Fast forward to today and a visit to the apothecary provides a step back in time, stocked from floor to ceiling with bottles of miracle cures, surrounding an ornately carved dispensary from where the pharmacist concocted his medicines. • This is an excellent museum showing what an old apothecary used to look like. Period bottles and herbs are on display, as well as explanations of what one is looking at. Free (donation requested).
  • I was in town for 5 days and it was never open. Too bad as I had planned a visit for weeks and weeks.
  • The Apothecary was where one went when you were or a family member was ill. Staffed by very knowledgeable volunteers. A great place to stop into while wandering on Queen Street.
  • Really interesting little spot we stumbled upon. It's free to take a look although they appreciate donations. Lots of historical medical items to see. Totally recommend if you're in the area.
  • Interesting place with lots of history. You may recognize it from the Trisha Romance painting.
  • Very neat piece of history if you like medical history/antiques. friendly staff
  • Kind of cool and bit creepy. - on the ghost walk.
  • Pretty small place to discover the profession of an apothecary, who were the ancestors of pharmacists. It saw old boxes of medicines in the past, pictures of time, etc. I liked it.
