Skylon Tower, Niagara Falls
Categories: Observation Decks, Landmarks, Tourist Spots
A meal with a view awaits at Skylon Tower, featuring an observation deck and a revolving restaurant overlooking Niagara Falls. Located on the Canadian side of the falls, the 160 m (520 ft) tower features three external elevators that can whisk you to the top in just under a minute. The views from the outdoor and indoor decks alone merit a visit, though most tourists also choose to round-off their experience with a hearty meal at the onsite restaurant. The base of the tower contains several gift shops and an amusement arcade, making this attraction a good shopping/entertainment spot for families with kids. I would recommend visiting the Skylon Tower for the views that it offers. We were there just as the sun was setting and it was a great spot to take pictures of both the Falls and the city. What really... read more »
A quick trip up the exterior elevators and you are on top of it all. The views at night are fantastic. Try to plan around a full moon and the river above The Falls are in view.
I had family visit from Nova Scotia mid October. We did the lunch buffet in the Summit Room, the day was gorgeous, the Observation deck was windy but the view is amazing. The food was good but more fr... read more »
Perhaps we came on a good day, but nonetheless our experience was positive. The lunch buffet, while limited in variety, was filling and the taste was typical buffet quality. The prime rib was juicy, moist and flavorful. We were a bit disappointed we couldn't sit by a window, but access to the observation deck makes up for it. Only coffee, tea and water are included in the buffet price which was fine since it was 90°F+ outside and we needed the water. I would say this is a good spot if it's your first visit to Niagara as it certainly added to our visit, but I wouldn't make it an annual stop.
We had gone to Niagara Falls on vacation, and were staying on the New York side, and decided to eat dinner at the Skylon, almost solely for the view. We had walked in the large building half an hour before our reservation, and walked around the large plaza, viewing Canadian stores and such. At around 6:45, we checked in for our reservation and got in the long line for the elevators, and stood there for about 15 minutes. We were then crammed into the elevators with many other people, and unless you were smooshed against the window, there was very little hope of seeing the falls from the elevator without lifting your phone above other's heads (Which I did anyway) After exiting the elevator and waiting about 5 minutes for our table (which was not bad) we sat down to be informed that refillable drinks were $8, and normal drinks were $3.50. Not outrageous, but not very reasonable. We then went up to get our food at the buffet and were greeted by probably the world's rudest people: they were swearing and arguing and pushing, all inside the tiny room with the food. The staff were not wearing any gloves. Our table had almost no view whatsoever, prompting us to awkwardly crane our necks in order to see what we had paid for. The food was, frankly, awful. Prime Rib was dry, the cake was rubbery, and generally plain bad. Following our dinner, we went up to the observation deck and walked outside to an admittedly stunning view. If you're going to go at all, just purchase tickets to the top and eat elsewhere.
Skylon Tower allows you to see Great Niagara Falls from a birds flight view, dramatic, absolutely gorgeous view, especially if you be lucky with weather. We have visited it in the end of October and to catch a good weather in the fall is problematic, but we got lucky and fully enjoyed the chance. See pictures and 4K video publicly available . We were primarily interested in taking a peak on Niagara Falls itself, so restaurants, game room and other amenities were bypassed. We did visit gift shop and loaded up with souvenirs. View is astounding!
I didn't eat here, so this review is just for the observation tower. Awesome vantage point to see all the falls and a quick rude to the top with the elevator. I didn't think it was expensive to get to do this, I believe it cost me around $12 in May and I'm used to paying $30+ for the tower observation decks in NYC so I thought the price was great, the view was gorgeous and short of going for a helicopter ride, gives you a unique and gorgeous panoramic view of the entire region. Loved it. Wasn't impressed with the menu options of both restaurants so didn't bother to dine here, though the revolving dining room sounds pretty cool. There's also some shops inside on the lower level as well as an arcade area downstairs. It had way more to offer than expected. Parking in the closest lot runs you $10 but it's cheaper if you park in a lot next door or just walk.
The tower itself is aging poorly and looks straight from the eighties. Escalators are broken and blocked off. Stores abandoned. That said stores are not why you came here right? We had our picture taken ($30 for a stupid picture is ridiculous, we didn't buy it.) before entering an elevator to head up for a buffet lunch. The elevator operator could have used a lesson in hygiene but again, I'm not here for an elevator ride. Once at buffet level you can ask to wait for a seat with a view. 15 minutes later we had a perfect seat. Food was good but not great. Wait staff was excellent. 2 adults 2 kids with refillable drinks and 20% tip came to $165 Canadian. They charge TFT but removed it upon request,no questions asked. Why 5 stars? This has to be the 2nd best view of the falls Canada has to offer. 1st being Hornblower and 2nd being skylon.
