Stroll around, or head down the pebbly beach and dip into the water at Pipers Lagoon Park. The rocky headland is perfectly positioned to reward visitors with picturesque sunsets over the horizon. You can discover several benches lining the lagoon, all of which provide a great area for relaxing while listening to the sounds of the ocean.   • Easy walking trails and gorgeous views of the ocean. You don't need to spend much time, no more than an hour.  more »
  • A short loop, no more than 1 hour total, with scramble-y sections. Great views of the water and surrounding islands, but can be very windy.  more »
  • I love bringing my 3 yeae old here for some outdoor activity and burn off energy! Beautiful place to unwind and escape the busy of the city.  more »

  • Pipers Lagoon is a magical spot right on the ocean nestled amongst forest trees, you will hear birds chirping and see beautiful flowers in bloom, their smell is refreshing! The view out into the Georgia Straight is breathtaking, you can climb the easy hills to the top and watch sailboats drift by on a gentle wind. A few great spots for picnics here!
  • Great place to hike the shoreline rocks and trails. Lots of parking including public washrooms. Pack your lunch and drinks. Sit and observe the boats fishing plus the ferries and Comercial vessels. See seals even Orca whales. Plus get the value of exercise climbing the rocks and cliffs of Pipers Lagoon Park. Large open grass field to fly your kite or drone.
  • Not too crowded. A short path with great views. Lots of different nooks and crannies for people to hang out in.
  • Stunning views, beautiful trails and wildlife. Great place to take photographs
  • Gorgeous views, easy access to ocean. Beautiful little hike. Kids love it.

Where to stay in Nanaimo

Stay at one of the guesthouses and inns lining Front Street if you want to be in the heart of the city, while also enjoying the waterfront at your doorstep. For a more natural ambiance, head north of the center along the coastal highway, where you can choose from a selection of inns and resorts boasting views over Newcastle Island. If you have a car and prefer an easy route out of town, stay at one of the motels lining Island Highway to the northwest of the center.
