We spent so long so it was quite brittle at that find down to the part of the underground city where there actually is life and many shops. So we learned that you have to go to St. Catherine's Street, and go down to RES (o) on a blue sign or down through the Department store. Can well see that when it is cold and there is much snow in Montreal in the winter so it is very convenient to go underground, but in summer it makes not so much sense other than we were curious! If you are familiar with how the corridors are connected, you can get around during much of the city and up to metro/miscellaneous buildings and streets, but for a tourist, it is really hard to find the funny spots. The signs are so bad that it is incomprehensible! You would think that they would like to have customers in the underground city! It is a very large shopping centre with all kinds of activities under the ground but linked by long long anonymous times where you don't know whether you are on the right track!

The Underground City of Montreal is giant. There we found everything connected, malls, subway stations, restaurants, enfirm. Has shopping with 3 levels down, we used to heat, imagine to be very practical and comfortable mostly in winter.

Just a mall with shopping and food courts. Someplace to go on a rainy day. Hard to navigate around with minimal signage.  more »

Where to stay in Montreal

If beautiful architecture and views over the water appeal, stay in the historic neighborhood of Vieux Montreal (Old Montreal), where you'll be a stone's throw from the best attractions in the city. If modern convenience is more important to you, look for accommodations in the downtown neighborhood of Centre-Ville, or head a bit farther out to the artsy district of Plateau Mont-Royal. LGBTI visitors might want to consider staying in The Village, Montreal's famously progressive hub of gay and lesbian culture.
