Saputo Stadium is a soccer-specific stadium at Olympic Park in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The stadium opened on May 21, 2008, and is the current home of the Montreal Impact. The stadium is built on the former practice track and field site on the grounds of the 1976 Summer Olympics, while the stadium's west side has a view of Olympic Stadium's inclined tower. It has a capacity of 20,801, making it the second-largest soccer-specific stadium in Canada, after BMO Field in Toronto.ConstructionThe stadium cost to build, with $7.5 million paid by the Saputo family and the rest financed on a 25-year term. Saputo Stadium is now the Impact's administrative headquarters and also includes a training field, 34 corporate suites and full player welfare areas. The complex covers approximately 1600000sqft. It was designed and fabricated by Dant Clayton Corporation and built by Broccolini Construction Inc.The stadium features a natural grass playing surface and was reportedly preferred over BMO Field for this reason by members of the Canada men's national soccer team. BMO Field has since installed a heated and fully irrigated natural grass field similar to those found in the English Premier League.Anticipating a Montreal entry into Major League Soccer, plans were made to expand the stadium from its initial 13,034 capacity to 20,000 to cope with the anticipated boost in attendance. The Quebec government put $23 million for the renovation and expansion of the stadium (the total cost of the stadium was therefore about $40 million). The construction plans went into effect after MLS granted Montreal their nineteenth franchise, which began play in the 2012 season.

  • It is a small stadium with a capacity just above the 20 thousand spectators and is located on a small hill at the end of the complexes of the Biodome, planetary and the Olympic Stadium in Montreal. We only met him outside. In the stadium store I could buy an article to the memory of the Ivorian Didier Drogba, the figure of the team.

  • I had never really seen a stage of Canadian Football, unfortunately it wasn't the right time for visits that is played has a week too early and damage in the meantime I did shop I find it small... But for people who are a fan that will certainly please them

  • The stadium is okay, nothing special and definitely not comparable to European stadiums. The level of football in the MLS is quite low, although the teams are filled with foreigners. The audience is quite noisy and the friendly atmosphere, the whole is commercially exploited in admirable fashion from countless stalls of junk food eaten by the natives. A fun experience, all things considered.

Where to stay in Montreal

If beautiful architecture and views over the water appeal, stay in the historic neighborhood of Vieux Montreal (Old Montreal), where you'll be a stone's throw from the best attractions in the city. If modern convenience is more important to you, look for accommodations in the downtown neighborhood of Centre-Ville, or head a bit farther out to the artsy district of Plateau Mont-Royal. LGBTI visitors might want to consider staying in The Village, Montreal's famously progressive hub of gay and lesbian culture.
