Nature / Park
Bois-de-l'Île-Bizard Nature Park is a large park in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It is located on the island of Île Bizard in the borough of L'Île-Bizard–Sainte-Geneviève.This nature park is located in the east-central part of Île Bizard. Almost all of the area is located in the interior of the island, linking the Lake of Two Mountains and the Rivière des Prairies. Pointe-aux-Carrières is the largest of the three coastal locations. It is also at this point it is built the welcome centre of the regional park.HistoryIn 1678, Jacques Bizard received the right to Île Bizard which at the time was named after Bonaventure. The seigneury of Bizard remained the property of this family until the British Conquest. It was then held by Montreal merchant Pierre Foretier and his heirs. Île Bizard began to be populated in the second half of the eighteenth century. The area of the Bois-de-l'Île-Bizard Nature Park was probably not been subject to residential development because of its marshy soil and the presence of quarries nearby. The Bois-de-l'Île-Bizard Nature Park is an area of historical interest. The site was used for a harbour, quarries and beaches. The park is visible to navigators on the Lake of Two Mountains, and served as a stopover for many boats. The bay of Pointe-aux-Carrières offered a place where wooden cages could be detached prior to descending the Lalement rapids at the entrance of the Rivière des Prairies.

  • I run in this park fairly regularly. There are a lot of walkers, bird watchers and some cyclists. I feel safe and feel a bit of the country living not too far from the city.  more »

  • The Park is located near the town. Horoshotguljat' here. We are a couple hours trawled on cycle tracks, subdued at the site of the birds. Very fresh. Foliage almost flown, but still colorful. Air simply intoxicating. People a little bit. And nature is just great.

  • superbe parc, prevoir de l'anti bibittes l'ete
  • Great Park, Close to Montreal, Close to the City. Reasons to go: 1. The Variety of Birds, Turtles and Wildlife 2. Nice Swamps, Nice Ponds Yet the park can take you less than 2:30 hours to do almost all the routes, also parts of the park are close to the main road, and you can hear cars a lot. Also parts of the park are not well maintained, the bridges where down and dangerous when I went there. But all in all worth a one time visit, I did it walking, yet biking seems to also be a fun option.
  • Great park on Île Bizard. Really nice place to go on a bike ride or just on a stroll. Big wide gravel paths allow for easy travels.
  • Nice pasarelle with some wild animals. You can see turtles, fishes, frogs. Nice hiking. Nit too many places for picnic.
  • Came for a Guepe demonstration on frogs. The kids loved it and I saw enough of it to want to come back to explore the rest of the park.
